ChatGPT Team invite new member

I would like to upgrade to team subscription for 1 year.
How many members or email accounts can I invite to my newly created workspace?

For teams you must pay for two seats minimum $30:each $60 total and +$30 per additional seat. I have teams but only one member with an empty seat. So basic Team account is 2 seats you and one other.

@mitchell_d00 You and me both  seems we are on the same page with this as with the API tiers.

To answer your question @Team05 , 999 seems to be the maximum.

For my setup, 1 account upgraded to Team. Is this allow maximum of 2 members of email addresses to be added ?

For 3rd or 4th member to invite later, how can I add and will it prompt for additional costing ?

I assuming 1 account create 1 workspace with multiple members to add anytime.

Is there any training material to help our workspace administrator and end user.

You can manage seats here, and they will be added to the next months bill pro-ratedā€”they will calculate the no. of days left in the month (or payment cycle) from the time of adding the new member, and bill a percentage of the monthly/annual price in the next bill.

At least that is how I understand it.

2 is the minimum number of seats, but as @mitchell_d00 said, they can be unused.

Correct.

Thank you for advice and sharing. I trying search more material to conduct Team courses and hands-on for our users to better understand Team and incorporate the features in our daily environment.

you could add me to the list. Got an exciting project that just popped up for OpenAI.

Can a Team member role invite a new member?
The system sent the invitation, and when accepted by any member within or outside my organisation, the seat count will update and our team was charged without any knowledge.

How can I restrict members from inviting other users and prevent incurring unauthorised billing costs. This can be a critical issue when any team member, granted the default rights to invite new member.

@Team05 You can set your seat as owner, you are who gives or not gives admin functions.
You can do things like not allowing 3rd party gpt into your workspace etc.

Itā€™s like a group or forum you have owners then admin. Owner sets admin privileges :rabbit:

Among few seats we subscribed, 1 seat set to owner and rest of seats set to member. Only owner, admin & member role for selection.

As a role of member, it allows to invite new member, once accepted the invitation from any user within the organisation, an additional charges incurred. How can we stop this without the approval of owner.

This is all the information I can find: Only Owners and Admins should be able to invite new members and assign seats. However, there are reports of issues where all team members can add users, leading to unexpected billing costs. This has been flagged by several users, and it seems that restrictions on invitations might not be fully enforced across all teamsā€‹

Yes, this is the way the Team subscription works. the Owner(s) can invite members and assign them roles, including Owner. However, Team members can invite members but cannot assign them roles.

This is a feature rather than a bug or oversight. The assumption being that Team is used by organizations with Team Members that do not have nefarious intent and the desire to add random people to their organization. I understand many peopleā€™s hesitation with this, and OAI may still yet change it, but that is how it is currently setup.

The organizationā€™s Owners and Admins are responsible for billing and team management and receive notices when new members are added and billing rates are impacted. The assumption is that the member adds were approved and that, if not, Owners and Admins would flag it, remove the unapproved user and potentially the offending Team member.

I agree it adds a certain level of frustration and an oversight requirement, donā€™t shoot the messenger, but that is (currently) just how it works.

Im out of hearts. But TY this was a tuff nut. I see a huge issue in disgruntled team members. Makes me thankful Iā€™m a solo. :rabbit::heart::honeybee:

Itā€™s mind-boggling that this is still the narrative.

Thanks for clarifying this functionality. We already had an issue with unauthorized users appearing in our team space. The design does not take into account the way organizations work and the need to respect financial controls. Hopefully openAI can retify this.

I just ran into this same surprising issue as I began rolling this out to my company. It has stopped the rollout in its tracks.

We also need this feature for our Team license. Or at least when team member invites a user, Admin should receive approval request. Without their consent the invited user would not become a member.

We have the same issue. It popped up when I was doing training. I never imagined that a person with the ā€œMemberā€ role would be able to invite new members. This would be a security issue even if it didnā€™t charge me for the new account, which it does.

The responses that say this is a ā€œFeatureā€ are tone deaf. Adding a new member to a conversation like allowing MS Teams users to talk to those outside the organization is one thing but this is not the same. It is basically giving the users in my organization the power to sign the organization up to pay for new licenses.

I have read through this thread AND the two others that date back to January 2024 and were both closed with no resolution for some reason.
For those who say something akin to ā€œYou should have more control over your employees.ā€ or ā€œYou should just fire them if they invite new people without your permission.ā€ are tone deaf as well. I am in IT and canā€™t fire anyone but will have to pay for the license out of my budget. Also, most of the time this is just going to be an honest mistake. Users may not understand that inviting someone else is going to incur additional cost to the organization.

All of this asideā€¦

This could be easily remedied with 1 toggle.
ā€œAllow members to invite new members YES/NOā€ Doneā€¦

Why is this still a thing?

Oh man, I feel you. I just went back and read the other two previous threads you were involved in. This could be easily solved, and it has dragged on since January of 2024??
