Why can't pay the billing


Please fix this issue as soon as possible. I still cannot make the payment.

It’s been more than 2 months, sometimes I try to pay, but it still doesn’t work, I have used many different credit cards in my country or a friend’s card in the US, but they are all blocked. refuse. Please help me so I can develop an educational app for kids in my country.

Same here, US person in the US, US card, get declined without reason, contact bank, bank said the transaction never went through.
Fix your shit OpenAI, why you guys can invent ChatGPT but can’t fix the Stripe integration?

New findings, if you guys are using WeWork WiFi, try to disconnect from WeWork WiFi and use your Phone’s hotspot, and turn off iCloud private relay.

Apparently OpenAI has beef with WeWork and banned all WeWork WiFis

I have the same problem as the rest of the world. I am from Poland, with a bank card in Poland. Yesterday a payment for another month should have gone down, but it seems my card is being declined. I have changed the card, but I get even sillier messages, e.g. that the card date 11/24 is an overdue card. I am trying to pay for ChatGPT Plus. The bank doesn’t get a payment notification, so it’s an error on the OpenAI side. Significantly, I am not being charged VAT. I am not using a VPN.
Thank you in advance for your help, my payment deadline passed yesterday.

For a few hours any attempt to proceed to payment ends with a message:

Hi ! I’m in France and its the same on my side, my card is being declined for ChatGPT Plus, without any reasons…

Update : indeed, don’t use WeWork Wifi but rather your phone’s hotspot, and use Chrome rather than Firefox, it fixed my issue !

Still unable to process after multiple attempts. Bank says no trigger in the system for a payment from OpenAI. Hoping for a solution at the earliest

I have given up on it!
Its getting ridiculous as there is no response from OpenAI whatsoever and in the meanwhile you can’t access GPT4 or ChatGPT4.

So I finally decided to delete my credit card info and deleted my account.
Then to send them an email that I have revoked my subscription.

I then opened a new account, paid with the same credit card info and got validated.

There is clearly something very, very wrong with their payment system.
Now I only hope things will go well next month.

I think your investigation is partly incorrect.

Yes there is something terribly wrong with the payment service.
And its definitely a BIG issue too, causing problems for many of its users including myself!

However after I’ve deleted my account, made a new one and used my credit card on the new account for the new payment and… guess what, It was accepted. Just like it supposed to be all the time. Now of course I do not know what’s going to happen next month, when the billing needs to be done again.

My bank and VISA said the same as what Sharan here said: “No trigger in the system for a payment from OpenAI.” This is the cause for the card refusal.

The issue is definitely on the side of OpenAI.
Its truly beyond me why OpenAI doesn’t take any action to get this issue solved.
It’s a BIG problem, that should be solved immediately as everyday many new customers will be faced with this issue.

I only know that when competition comes out with a service that works as good, they will be loosing loads of paying customers that are now having just these payment issues.

The same issue persists with Debit and Credit Cards issued from the Philippines.

I keep getting a payment declined message, there is no reason for these charges to be declined. I have tried many cards and called my bank. They are not seeing any changes come through and they said this is a problem at OpenAI/Stripe. Any updates when this will be fixed?

I think you don’t understand the severeness of this problem Mr DavidLockett.

Because YOU don’t have a problem with the OpenAI payment system, doesn’t mean others may have problems. People like you are to no help at all. Nobody here is after anything or credit card info. But you look to be too complacent to understand what the actual issue is.

Your credit card may be suddenly declined for no reason with the next billing as well.
Let’s see if you will then be so big mouthed, self indulgent and arrogant with your request for help from OpenAI.

For several days I have been trying to pay for a subscription, but it does not work, I used 2 different cards. Although last month everything worked fine.

Sorry your assessment is completely wrong

  1. There is NO ban on anybody . There is ONLY a rejection of the credit card.
  2. The problem is that there is no response as in a inquiry from OpenAI serverside. And so the problem is in the connection AT their payment service. This I have been told by both my bank and by VISA.

The solution is actually quite easy.

  1. Remove your credit card info from your account.
  2. Delete your account
  3. Reinstate a new account
  4. Pay the subscription with your credit card (the one that has been refused will be accepted).

This issue is clearly with OpenAI for some obscure reason there is a fault in handling credit card payments from abroad.

What bothers me is that OpenAI doesn’t openly acknowledge the existence of this problem and so we do not know if they are working on a solution.

Thanks for solution. There are multiple reasons if your card is declined. Some lucky guy could be fixed simply by change region, close iCloud delay or disconnect WiFi. Some others got their account totally black-listed. For detailed decline reason, you can use F11 inspect to check response from Stripe side. This doc explains how this monitoring system works.

Good you find a workout by create a new acc. I can not simply delete my account. It got GPT4 api early-bird access, and our startup team has poured countless hours and significant resources into building our product on GPT-4 API. To lose access now would not only be a devastating blow to our passion but would render our tireless efforts in vain. I have to try till last minute for my team.

The problem is still present. At least for a user from Western Europe. It’s the first time I had payment rejected with a Visa card.
