I’ve received an email that OpenAI API Invoice Payment Failed. I tried two payment methods, with a master card and a Visa card respectively. However, neither of them could work.
In the last Month, I payed the Chatgpt plus subscribe successfully with $20. However, with the same card and same information, I can’t pay the API fees.
I have built some applications on the API, and they are very important to me. I am really looking forward to using the OpenAI API normally. Can you provide some help or suggestions? I really appreciate it.
I have the exact same problem. There seems to be some problem with the invoice system for some invoices. No payment method works because it fails on the OpenAI end with a 500 internal error which means that their invoice processing system is failing hard internally. I tried Stripe and Google Pay with multiple cards to no avail. All ad blockers switched off. Tried on both Chrome and Safari, nada.
I have the same issue. OpenAI has been accepting my payment cards without any problems since last October. I contacted my bank and they informed me that the issue is with OpenAI. I’ve already contacted support but still no reply yet after 14 hours. Very frustrating
Same here. I signed up to Plus literally the day it became available, but now it isn’t processing my payments. Tried different cards and systems (Stripe, Google Pay), but nothing. Without ChatGPT I might as well go on a holiday because my work productivity is so abysmal.
Yes, I have also encountered this issue. It seems like this is not just a problem that I am experiencing, and it’s possible that there is a fault with their payment system. However, we don’t seem to have a place to provide feedback on this issue.
Same here, we tried with 7 credit cards, and all failed! We contacted banks, all pointing out the whole issue with OpenAI. Reaching out to OpenAI, but no one is responding to us. We have multiple applications utilizing API, we just can’t get any help.
I’m in the same boat and I can’t pay my bill from April 9th.
I really need these api to do more of the stuff I want to do.
Hopefully OpenAI will fix this soon.

+1 on the issue. I had problems to pay the API invoices for two months in a row already. The first month I somehow managed to get it paid when the Link.co button popped up and I tried that way. But this second month even that method fails.
Buying Dall-E credits or Stable Diffusion credits with the same exact payment setup (Stripe + my credit card’s issuing bank) works fine.
But the API always fails. My colleagues also tried to help by paying with their U.S. based credit cards (mine is from Finland), but none of those worked either.
My deadline is April 22. Please help @OpenAI! You’re our only hope
I just managed to raise my monthly cap from $120 to $500, and I’m tracking this third month’s spending to be close to $100 already. Just take my money!

I have sent emails to OpenAI but they only given me suggestions for trying again and all of them failed…

I just tried again, the invoicing system at OpenAI is failing with an internal 500 error and it’s not giving any useful information to fix it. Tried with both Stripe and Google Pay. Neither work. Given the zero attention we’re getting on this issue, my only recommendation would be to keep trying the valid payments regularly and hope it goes through before they shut down your account because they couldn’t accept money you were trying to give them.
I suspected that this was an international billing issue also since I’m Canadian, but it’s so hard to get any information. If you monitor the browser requests going to their system you’ll notice that the POST to https://api.openai.com/dashboard/billing/invoices/<in_stripeinvoicenumber>/pay is failing every time with an error 500. So clearly their system is throwing an exception internally, I just don’t know if anyone is seeing that error.
Strangely, that failed page error returns a JSON error that looks like this “The server had an error processing your request. Sorry about that! You can retry your request, or contact us through our help center at help.openai.com if you keep seeing this error. (Please include the request ID 12345678901234567890 in your email.)” But the request ID is not shown to the end user.
It’s too bad that they don’t show it so that we could make more helpful support requests to get this resolved. @logankilpatrick can you point this thread to the right people? I’m building plugins and I don’t want to lose access next week cc/ @Adam-OpenAI@dschnurr
This should be resolved for most people right now, we had some changes on our side that were inadvertently effecting the API. If you are still having issues, we will have one last change coming very soon which should fix the issue completely. Sorry for the hassle!
