What is this 'error 409' and why is it impossible to log in to any of openai's links to its chat product using password managers

Cannot under any circumstances log in to this organisation’s chatgpt product domain from any route.

Attempting to do so simply returns this ‘409 error’ consistently.

Oops, an error occurred!
Route Error (409 ): {
  "error": {
    "message": "Invalid client. Please start over.",
    "type": "invalid_request_error",
    "param": null,
    "code": "invalid_state"
  }
}

their support simply regurgitates the same vanilla fixes every time this is raised.

I’ve had the same problem

I had the same problem. It persisted despite clearing the website cache and reloading the page.

My Fix:
I have no explanation why this worked but when I clicked on the Sign In button at the top right of this help page, I was redirected to a new tab that allowed me to successfully log in to ChatGPT without the error. The URL is identical to the general ChatGPT login so I can’t explain why this worked.

I am using Firefox ver. 128.9.0esr + Linux
