Yeah i have tried this a dozen times and no dice, it worked once, and then lost my verification, so I think there is still a bug with this feature. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact we do not host a website of the TLD only the www subdomain and for which you cannot create a TXT record for a subdomain. Bottom line is TXT records work for all my other services like Twilio, Google , but not OpenAi so its OpenAI’s verificaton code that’s not the full ticket.
To verify your domain on your GPT profile, you need to add a TXT record through your domain registrar, which in your case is GoDaddy, not Durable. Here’s how to do it:
- Get the TXT Record from OpenAI: OpenAI will give you a TXT record to add to your domain’s DNS settings.
- Add the TXT Record in GoDaddy:
- Log into your GoDaddy account.
- Go to your DNS settings.
- Add the new TXT record with the value provided by OpenAI.
- Save the changes.
This is strictly a domain registrar task, and it’s something GoDaddy should assist you with. After you add the TXT record, it might take up to 48 hours to update across the internet.
For an alternative to create a website, you can consider platforms like Wix, Squarespace, or WordPress. They are user-friendly and offer various tools to build and manage a website without needing technical skills.
If GoDaddy is not providing the support you need, contacting OpenAI’s support or seeking assistance from a professional web developer might be helpful.
Hello, I’m also a beginner and have many questions I don’t understand. Please help me with your answers, and I greatly appreciate it. The issue I’m currently facing is: in step 5 of this operation, “Add a new TXT record, pasting the value provided by OpenAI. The exact steps for this may vary depending on your domain registrar, but generally, you’ll need to specify the TXT record type, enter ‘@’ in the host field (or your domain), and paste the value from OpenAI in the value field.” I followed the steps to modify the DNS server, but I can’t submit it. It seems like there might be an issue with the format of my modified domain, but I don’t know where the problem is. Could you please help by providing a screenshot of your operation so that I can understand better? Thank you very much!

Hello everyone, i think i have found another solution.
In my case following the guide didn’t help me.
To solve the bug i had to verify my domain without the www. prefix! In the chatgpt “add website” just insert yourdomain.yourextension instead of www.something.somethingelse.
In my case i first canceled all verified domains, then added my domain as promptengine.xyz instead of www.promptengine.xyz. After that i added the TXT record as @ in the DNS with the OpenAi key. From that moment everything worked perfectly and i was able to verify the domain and toggle visibility.
In fact if you take a closer look at the “example” OpenAi provides in the field box (when you try to add a website) it only contains “openai.com”.
Hope this helps!
