No help available, need help signing up, cell phone number incorrectly identified as landline, no help available from anywhere

This may help to fix this problem

Gracias funcionó muy bien para mi. País México

I’m having the same issue and my Koodo phone number has been a cell line for as long as I’ve had it.

Unfortunately clearing cookies (as mentioned in the video above) had no effect on the filter tagging my number as a landline. The support ticket I opened last week hasn’t had a response yet, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

This. My number is not a landline, has never been a landline. It is a valid mobile number with a Canadian carrier. Have gone through the support process using the chatbot indicating that someone will get back to you in a week but didn’t hear back. Tried a second time.

Same issue here. Rogers mobile number (Canada) is recognized as a landline. Please fix.

Summary created by AI.

Multiple users have reported experiencing issues with OpenAI’s Chat GPT when signing up, as the AI system incorrectly identifies their mobile numbers as landline numbers. This prevents them from receiving verification codes, blocking them from creating accounts. Users have also complained about inadequate customer support, as the AI bot in the customer support chat does not provide applicable solutions and asks them to sign in for further assistance - which they can’t do without completing sign up. Some users have tried different tactics, from checking spam folders for the code to altering their country code; both without success. The lack of human support and the AI’s general inability to solve the problem have led to a significant loss of trust in the company among these users. Multiple attempts to resolve these issues have not been successful, and there doesn’t appear to be a way to get help without initially signing into the platform. Irony and frustration are prevalent, as the issue these users are facing is within the very process designed to create their access to further assistance.

As a moderator, I have decided not to close this topic, as it appears to be the only means for users experiencing the problem to be identified.

same here, i tried contacting support and none of the reasons they provided that would invalidate my number would qualify , i have verified my phone number with google, discord, facebook and many more applications , my home country is on the list of supported country so there should be just no reasons why it happens

Same issue here, my cell number used to be a landline but it was converted years ago to a cell. ChatGPT only recognizes it as a landline. No response to my request for help via email.

Canadian number

I have had my 705 879 cell phone number for almost 20 yrs. i have another more recent 705 330 number and a third 226 377 number. 705 879 is my primary number and like everyone else in this thread when attempting to create an account using my 705 879 exchange I was told it was a land line number, same for 705 330 number, however, my attempt with 226 377 was successful. This along with all the others with the similar issue peaked my curiosity. I ran a google search “is 705 879 exchange a cell or land line number” to see what results would return. interestingly the results came back stating that "All 705 879 calls come from a Landline operated by Bell Canada and are located in the city of Lindsay in ON. " yellow pages.ca along with other hits stating the same. Similar results for my 705 330 number except the city is Orillia. I did the same for my 226 377 number and no surprise it came back as a cell number, explaining why it was accepted for account creation. My conclusion is, whatever data source OpenAI is using to validate cell numbers has outdated data. As there has been very little success with open AI responding or coming to this conclusion based on how long this thread has been ongoing and the frustration about tickets expressed, I may go back yo yellowpages.ca to see where they are obtaining their very incorrect information.

I don’t think me toos are necessarily useful - - -but - - - here’s another one!

My issue is a little different - - - I just don’t have service here which is a little different than mis-labelling - - - end result is the same - - - but then the AI is always right - - yes - - - (even when its not - - - grin!)

What a gong show (chatgpt support)!!!

I’ve had a support ticket open forever and here’s the crap I get back the second time they responded RE: my “totally a VoIP” but not actually number (I have clarified repeatedly I am using a normal Canadian Rogers cellular number, have had this number for like 15-17 years, and have never had an account):

Hi there,

First off, we’re very sorry for the delay in getting back to you. As we’ve scaled quickly, we have been working hard to catch up with all the interest and outreach from customers like you. We strive for much faster response times and are working on improvements to get back faster.

We’re sorry to hear that you’re running into trouble verifying your phone number.

Please note that we currently don’t support VoIP or landline numbers, and unfortunately cannot make exceptions to this. If you are using a supported number, we recommend double checking that you have entered the correct phone number and country code, and that you have a strong network connection. Typically, you should receive the verification code within a few minutes, but it may take longer depending on your mobile carrier or network conditions, so it may help to wait a few hours and try again. If you still do not receive the code, please check to make sure that your phone is not blocking unknown or spam calls or messages. You may need to adjust your settings or contact your provider to allow verification codes.

If you weren’t allowed to sign up because you used a phone number associated with a previously deleted account, we recommend trying again. We recently made improvements to this part of our verification flow to make it easier. Keep in mind that any previous account will still count toward our two accounts per phone number limit.

We hope this helps. If you’re still running into trouble, we recommend looking through our [phone verification troubleshooting guide](URL redacted, I’m a new user it doesn’t let me post multiple links).

That is literally not helpful and probably generated by ChatGPT instead of actually reading and addressing the issue.

OpenAI… how is this helpful??? My number is valid. Stop falsely flagging numbers.

I had the same frustrating problems as everyone else and none of the guaranteed solutions worked I think I may have found a way around it however, and it doesn’t involve creating temporary numbers, voip, or adding zeros to your number or anything like that.

I downloaded the app for my phone and logged into my account. From there they made me verify I wasn’t a robot and I was in. I tried logging in from my laptop and I was able to get in without having to verify my phone number plus the chats I made from my phone were in there.

I hope it works for you and I’d be interested to know if it does. Good luck!

A multitude of users are experiencing problems while trying to sign up, with the system incorrectly identifying their cell phone numbers as landlines and refusing to send a verification code, as expressed by soumo and later reiterated by cirilla.029, gregory.macisaac, Broilermaker, Knowledge, grady.b.ward, Galiven, Bob_Loblaw, Blackbear, b.jardine, and annettehbradford. Dragonite suggests checking blocked messages and adding zeros before the phone number, but these solutions do not seem to work for cirilla.029. Other users like tiborbz1 report their phone numbers as being identified as premium numbers by Chat GPT. This issue with account creation has led to various users, such as cirilla.029, criticizing the company’s support system, which is viewed as ineffective.
