I'm being automatically logged out of ChatGPT as soon as I try to log in - I've been locked out!

Since October 30th I can’t seem to log in to my main OpenAI account anymore, it just logs me out of ChatGPT automatically. I tried clearing cookies/caches and using different browsers/devices and I still get logged out automatically.

Not only that, but when this started happening, I also got an email from Google Play saying that my ChatGPT subscription will be cancelled. No email from OpenAI themselves, I only got that unsubscription email from Google Play.

There were a bunch of 401 errors outputted in the console before I got automatically logged out. Has anyone had this problem as well?

Welcome to the forum. Try to clear browser cache.
Also try to log into it in incognito mode.

This will help too.

I already stated that I tried clearing cookies and cache, but it didn’t work. I even tried Incognito Mode.

Sorry, you may need gpt4o contact open AI. Do you use mobile or browser? Or both?

I’ve contacted OpenAI about this. It doesn’t matter which browser/device.

Yes I know sorry I rephrased it
Is the screen blank or do you see the log in?

I do see the log in screen, it doesn’t show up blank. Whenever I try to log in, it just immediately logs me out and brings me back to the log in screen. Both browser and mobile app.

Like this? I had this issue

Try uninstalling the app then clear cache then log into web browser archive chats then reinstall app

App and browser can go out of sink.

I tried uninstalling the app and clearing cache, but the web page just brings me back to the log in screen whenever I try to log in.

Here’s what’s outputted on the console the moment before I get logged out:

I’m so sorry, I’m sure one of the other users can help.
I wish you luck :four_leaf_clover:
Sorry I could not help. You can’t even access the console to log out on all devices either can you?

One last thing that order I gave uninstall app, clear browser cache, archive browser chats reinstall app has to be done in that order or it won’t fix it.

401 unauthorized errors being returned by backend API endpoints in your web developer network log, instead of them even giving information about your account, likely means:

  • Accessing OpenAI from an unauthorized country, or by an undesired method such as VPN exit node
  • Firewall software on a PC or firewall policy on a network
  • Other reason to be IP blocked by Cloudflare

OpenAI is taking a hard line about countries that have sanctions or restrictions, or where they otherwise can’t transact with nationals.

Troubleshooting if blocked account:

  • Can you access ChatGPT by a phone’s web browser when you are not on WiFi or are using an outside WiFi?
  • Can you use the free version of ChatGPT without login within a private browser window?

I checked this article and confirmed that I’m from one of the supported countries.

Also I’m sure it’s not IP being blocked, I was able to log in to ChatGPT with an alternate account (which is the one I’m using to post here) just fine without VPN. It’s just my main account that I’m locked out of.

I’m also able to access the free version of ChatGPT without logging in within Incognito Mode.

That simply then sounds like a case where: you are authenticated? Sorry, you are banned. Your subscription is cancelled/refunded.

Unlikely to be reversed, as they can be from anything the gamut of content policy violations to ever charging back OpenAI (or perhaps no app store funds?).

You can see if you can log in to platform.openai.com to even send a “help” request.

A hacked account’s misuse can also lead to this.

I told OpenAI Support Team that I didn’t mean to break usage policy, and one of the people there said that my account is active. I did not get the email from OpenAI that my account was banned either, so I don’t think my main account being banned is the case.

Forum users cannot fix accounts. Your only solution is to continue with help messages, describing the symptom of you still being locked out.

Forgot to mention, when I go to Labs (which is deprecated), I get into a repeated refresh loop.

And when I go to the OpenAI Platform, I get error message on top saying “Failed to load subscription for selected organization”.

Just received an email from OpenAI that my account was reinstated. Finally!
