Email invite error in chatgpt business

Hi everyone,

I’m facing an issue inviting a specific user to my ChatGPT Business workspace and would appreciate any guidance.

Error:
“Unable to invite user due to an error”

Details:

  • Affected email: [user email]

  • I’ve already purchased additional seats/licenses

What I’ve tested:

  • Other users can be invited without any issues

  • Removed and resent invitations multiple times

  • Tried using an email alias → same error

  • Confirmed we have available licenses

Observation:
This seems isolated to this specific user, which makes me suspect a conflict with an existing or previous workspace association, or a stuck account state.

Question:
Has anyone experienced this before? Is there a way to reset the user association or resolve this without OpenAI support intervention?

Thanks in advance.

did you have them check the basics, like making sure that they’re not attempting to log in through a browser that already has a different email account operating in it?

Good point — but in this case the error happens on my side (admin side) when sending the invite, not during the user’s login attempt.

The invitation fails immediately with “Unable to invite user due to an error”, so the user never even gets to the stage of logging in or accepting the invite.

That’s why it seems more like a backend/account-state issue tied to that specific email rather than a browser/session issue on their end.

Still open to ideas if anyone has seen this behavior before.

same experience this from noon,

Unable to invite .email. : Unable to invite user due to an error

Thanks for confirming — that’s helpful.

I’m seeing the same error, but after further testing I realized the issue is broader on my side:

  • I’m unable to invite any user, not just a specific one

  • The error appears immediately: “Unable to invite user due to an error”

  • No pending invites are created

  • I have available seats

  • I tested incognito, disabled extensions, and different networks — same result

Given this, it seems less likely to be a user-specific issue and more like a workspace-level or backend issue affecting the invite flow.

Since others are reporting similar behavior, this might indicate a wider incident or regression.

I’ll share updates if support provides more details.

Hi, You manage to get the respond from support team ?

The mod-team has escalated this internally, but no response yet. Stay tuned, please.

Having this issue as well. Signed up today and cannot add any team members [Same Errors]. Glad to see it’s not something I set up wrong.

I am experiencing the same issue here as well; is there any update on this matter?

Just got e-mail from support, they asked to share some alias I was trying to invite. I’ll be updating here as soon as they respond.

Guten Tag.

Same issue here, please let us know if there are any important changes to the topic.
