Welcome to the community!
Vietnam appears on OpenAI’s supported countries/territories lists, so this may not simply be a country-availability issue.
However, the post does not say which verification flow this is for. If it’s ChatGPT, API/platform, community account or something else and the exact error message is not included.
Since this seems to be phone-number/carrier verification, OpenAI Support would need to check it directly. I recommend you to contact them through Help and it may help to include the product/flow where verification failed, the exact error message, country, carrier, number format used and whether SMS or WhatsApp was tried.
Many thanks.
I have already emailed them and currently contacting. However they respond quite slowly so I’m seeking more help/advices from the community.
Also, I found out from social networks that these issues happen randomly from day to day.
Hope I’ll find a solution soon.
Once again, thank you for your advice.
Hi, Vietnamese here too!
I’m also experiencing this issue. I’ve emailed OpenAI support and am waiting for their solution. I got this issue while trying to verify for Codex CLI. So that failed, then I tried adding my phone number manually in GPT setting. I don’t know why but my account did have an option for that. But as soon as I tried, that option vanished somehow. In my Codex CLI case, there was no choices between SMS or WhatsApp, just purely entering a number.
Similarly, I am unable to verify my phone number when logging into Codex.
hi @LarisaHaster Do you have any updates on this issue? I’m still experiencing the same problem. I was using Codex when my session was unexpectedly terminated, and since then I haven’t been able to log in. Any help would be appreciated.
“Unable to send a verification code to this phone number. Please try again later or use a different number.”
Welcome to the community @datvm!
I’m not an OpenAI employee, just an another user on the community. And that’s why, unfortunately I don’t have any more updates regarding this issue.
That said, since there seem to be more users reporting the same phone verification issue, maybe @OpenAI_Support can give more information or direction here if they’re able to.
Yeah, Viettel is always the worst
@OpenAI_Support CAN YOU PLEASE FIX THIS FAST??? I DON’T KNOW IF THIS IS ON PURPOSE OR IF THE VIETNAMESE GOVERNMENT IS MESSING WITH VIETTEL SO I CAN’T EVEN VERIFY TO USE CODEX
Hey everyone, Our team had a look into this issue and it seems like the issue should be resolved. If you are still facing this issue, can you please share a bit more about how we can reproduce it. Thank you!
Hi, I have the same problem. I can’t use any phone number for verification, including Viettel numbers.
not working still error: Unable to send a text message to this phone number
@OpenAI_Support Still error, please fix it and save me
any update? i met this problem recently and cant login. my other account which doesnt have plus can login fine, without requiring phone number verify
what is happening here?
@OpenAI_Support
Hi everyone,
I am also experiencing the same issue here in Vietnam. In my case, there is no explicit error message on the screen—the system indicates that the code has been sent, but the SMS never actually arrives on my phone.
Here are my details:
- **Country:** Vietnam
- **Carrier:** Wintel (using +845598 prefix)
- **Flow/Product:** Codex CLI
- **Issue:** No SMS received (no error message displayed on UI, code is sent successfully but never delivered to the device).
It seems to be a carrier-specific routing or delivery failure, especially since Wintel is a virtual network operator (MVNO) in Vietnam. I hope the OpenAI team or the gateway provider can look into this SMS delivery issue soon.
Thanks!
Please fix this. Why are you preventing us from using the service because of such a terribly flawed verification logic?
same here using malaysian number, cant login to codex due to sms was never send. sigh …
@OpenAI_Support why can’t we just use our 2FA or email code to verify our account
