ChatGPT Export stopped working

Ever since an outage caused me to lose weeks’ of ongoing conversations, I have made it a habit to occasionally export my chat data to store locally.
I realized last night I hadn’t done it in a while, and went through the export rigamarole.
Except, no email ever arrived. I tried again a few times, still no email.
Then this morning, I tried from the Android app, and just a few moments ago, I tried again from the web app. No email with my download link.

I have checked my spam filter, of course. The email never arrives, leading me to believe it isn’t being sent.

I am having this same issue, I have tried to export over 40 times now over the last 28 hours.
OpenAi need to fix this as I need to export my data

Same here. I’ve tried a dozen times in the last 2 days and no emails have arrived.

I export once or twice a day on average since an outage caused me to lose over a week’s worth of data as well.

Just tried again this morning and still no luck.

Reached out to support and they are escalating this for investigation; they’re not aware of any issues yet but are thinking something may be up with the email servers.

This happened a few weeks ago too. It lasted only like a day though so I never posted about it.

It seems like they might have some scalability issues with their email servers.

Planning myself to switch to the API next week so I don’t have to rely on that anymore. :grimacing:

But definitely would like to be able to export what I currently have!!

Same issue here. I put in an issue on the support bot and have had no response so far. Probably a retry storm at this point. I’m going to wait for some openai response or announcement.

just tried again. I tried 5 times simultaneously to see if it would force the system, but still nothing

i have been trying this all day again, and still getting nothing, it says the export was successful but i never get the email

Same here! I used to save a backup of chats before delete them.

Sorry to read that the email with the download link is not arriving timely.

We had another user report a similar issue recently. I tested it myself and can confirm that sometimes it can take a while for the email to arrive.

This was somewhat surprising because I was used to getting the mail immediately, but it did arrive and we closed the topic.

I have taken note though that there are quite a few users reporting this issue today, in case the issue persists.

I am shocked and surprised that many more users have not noticed this issue.

I am also having the same problem.

Has OpenAI ceased the “export chat” functionality?
I have not received emails, even though the dialogue box says, “Export successful”.

Could someone please advise, as I am suspecting that this is a major issue?

I am also having same issues for days now. And i really need the export files to continue my work :sob:

This isn’t a “sometimes it takes a while” issue. I tried to export many days ago now, and there still hasn’t been a single email, despite the “Export successful” message on the UI. And, by the looks of things, I am far from the only one with this problem.

Typically when I export, the link arrives shortly- which is exactly what the export success message states.

I too have attempted several exports over the last 24hrs and received no emails. This is a concerning issue- or if it isn’t a real issue then perhaps information on increased wait times would be appropriate information for paying customers.

I sent a direct message to the help team and am awaiting a reply.

This is definitely not usual.

I replicated the process. It’s definitely not the same as it was two weeks ago, at least for me.

I suggest checking the spam folder for unexpected emails.

Here is the process when using privacy.openai.com:

Unlike before, I had to enter the email address of the account I wanted to export data for:

After submitting the form, this was the response: Email sent.

Then, in my spam folder, I found this:

After following the link to log in, I was asked to select my country of residence:

After submitting this form, I received confirmation that they are working on it. Here is the screenshot from the second email:

Previously, this used to take 24 hours but was often completed soon after sending the request.

In case you missed one of the emails, check your spam folder. For example, one of my test accounts forwards all emails to another address but not the spam.

Having done this, I ask you to confirm that you went through all the steps and are still waiting for an extended period of time.

I don’t understand this response. What does OpenAI’s privacy portal have to do with anything here?

In my ChatGPT settings, there is an option to “Export data”.

This gives you a dialog where you click “Confirm export”, which brings up the “success” notification:

And then nothing else ever happens. There are no forms, there is no Privacy Portal. Just an “Export” request.

And, as stated in my original post, yes, I have checked my spam folder. Repeatedly. As, I’m sure, has everyone else who replied here.
