I am also getting the same issue for the past two days
I’ve also been facing this issue for three days. It is NOT linked to a browser extension as I’ve disabled all and still can’t continue conversations past message #2. As others have pointed out this is related to the disabled chat history. As a paying customer who values privacy I find it frankly unacceptable. This should be a urgent bug for OpenAI and we’ve had absolutely no communication on their part. If this issue persists I will switch to a different service.
Same issue. This is a major bug and needs to be fixed urgently.
Same issue persists. Paid account. MacOS, Safari and Chrome.
How can this basic issue not be fixed after so long?
After researching I found the solution… it seems to work on android … so… I installed the android emulator bluestacks from www bluestacks com and ran Chatgpt4 from there including disabling chat history and it works OK. That is the best solution I found
I’m having the same issue. I turned the chat history back on and instead of getting the error message it just never generates a response. The dot just blinks. I am using the paid version and have not been able to use it meaningfully for the past few days.
Same problem with chat history off. Second answer “Conversation key not found”
I can’t also downloading any files created by the AI keeping chat history off.
I’m using ChatGPT 4, on Mac, Firefox or Chrome.
Normally, Openai is so fast to update the status page and fix issues, I hope this isn’t just a push to get more Teams subscriptions so they can still collect the history but “not train with it”. I prefer to keep history off for privacy but also to start from a clean slate every time.
Hopefully this is fixed soon, Plus is already so expensive but for such a powerful tool to be kneecapped so abruptly is a pain. I normally keep a document open to work with and save responses anyway, so my blunt solution for now is to explain the situation to the model, provide a couple past threads as context and be more conscious of keeping shorter prompt chains with this brief after my current prompt:
"(Given a persistent technical issue that disrupts the user experience by causing an ‘Conversation key not found. Try starting a new conversation’ error when Chat History is disabled, I have devised a workaround. This workaround involves organizing my queries and relevant context within a single, well-structured message. Below, I will outline any pertinent background information or previous exchanges in parentheses, clearly distinguishing the immediate, actionable query. This approach is designed to maintain focus and efficiency in our discussions, despite the technical limitations. Your task is to address the immediate query with consideration for the supplementary context, aiming to optimize both the content of our exchange and the strategy of our communication for enhanced clarity and effectiveness.)
(previous, relevant prompt thread)"
I’m experiencing this also.
“Conversation key not found. Try starting a new conversation.”
I have confirmed that the same problem occurs here.
I hope that this bug, which appears when the chat history is turned off, can be fixed as soon as possible.
Yes, the same issue with my 2nd question when in private mode. (Conversation key not found. Try starting a new conversation)
I am experiencing the same issues as everyone else above. The first message goes through without a hitch. Then no matter what my second message is; I always get the error.
The advice that you shared above sounds like a quick workaround. At least we are still getting to fire off one message. However I do not feel like I should be charged the full price of the subscription this month since I am not able to fully utilize ChatGPT4.
Thank you for sharing this!
When I was investigating further into my own issues that I am having with ChatGPT I did notice that after I “Inspected” elements, I found this…
It looks as if something isn’t allowing ChatGPT to access after a second message.
I am not super knowledgeable and wouldn’t know how to fix this, but I am going to keep researching!
Same issue. Conversation key not found. Try starting a new conversation.
It’s really frustrating.
It is happening to me starting this day. chat history off = “Conversaion key not found” after second interation. Literally cripples the service. currently unable to use chatgpt4. hopefully openai notices this quickly.
I have had the same issue since the 2nd of February. I hope that they are taking care of this bug, it seems that a lot of people are facing it.
One more voice to the issue.
I also have been experiencing the same issue 2 days straight 03/02 and 04/02. Windows, Chrome or Edge, did all the steps the generic response from OpenAI did but nothing seems to work.
And indeed things go back to normal once you turn on save chat. And go back to not working as soon as the option is off.
Having to share our data despite being paying customer is unacceptable!
Kind Regards,
Tassos
This has been present for so long and with such an obvious and detectable failure mode. I no longer believe it is a bug. I believe this is an intentional experimental feature test to see how much ChatGPT users value their privacy. I wonder whether the rates at which people give up and go back to chat history (and thus having your conversations used as training data) will be monitored very closely by OpenAI’s leaders.
where can i see if the bug has been fixed?? open since 15dd?? ![]()
Also started having this problem recently
