I am unable to add my prepaid Italian Mastercard as the default payment method. When I try, I receive the message “Your card has been declined.”
The odd thing is that I have successfully purchased credits with this same type of prepaid card in the past. For some reason, it is now being declined even though it worked previously with no issues.
Unfortunately we are not equipped to help you with this directly and your best bet is to reach out directly to OpenAI support via the Chat widget on the developer platform or, alternatively, try a different credit/debit card if you have the option.
Besides that there’s a few more tips here you could look at and try.
I have the same problem, OpenAI don’t accept pre-paid cards even though when I first adding my opening balance they did accept it. The reason is it’s too easy for us to manage our budget by only adding funds when needed so they can’t keep automatically taking off money whenever we use more than our balance.
Loss of business for them, but it seems they make more money by auto billing people so they don’t care about us little guys.
Terrible business practice if you ask me, your prepaid balance expires, and then if auto bill doesn’t work they just block your card.
I have the same problem.
Card declined (prepaid credit card). I don’t understand why they reject it, it seems pretty senseless.
I had to cancel my first top-up because my prepaid card wasn’t loaded yet. So, I didn’t even get the chance to use the ChatGPT API at all.
Well, if they can afford to lose customers, so be it.
I guess I’ll have to live with it, but I’m quite frustrated by this.
I am experiencing the same issue with the message “Your card has been declined.” Has anyone found a solution for this problem? Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
After spending hours reading guides, forum rules, and topics, this is my very first post on this forum.
My intention was to get familiar with the OpenAI API and invest around $10 to run some tests. I finally reached the payment stage and thought the token model worked like a “prepaid” system, where you load $10 worth of tokens and recharge when your balance is depleted. The idea behind tokens, as I understand it, is to pay in advance for usage. Am I mistaken? Could someone please clarify this for me?
Additionally, if the system does work this way, what is the reasoning behind declining prepaid cards?
Hi, any sulutions now? I have $4000 credits in my account from the OpenAI Research Access Program, but I can not use them as I cannot add my payment details (the card was declined).
