Your card has been declined.

When I try to add my credit card, the only message I get is “Your card has been declined”.

My card works with all providers, but not with OpenAI. Both before and after.

My bank says that there were no requests and nothing was declined from their side.

The OpenAI support sends me only copy & paste answers without any real content.

What can I do?

The developer forum has no ability to deal with payment processing issues

I understand it is frustrating when you do not receive a reply right away or if that reply seems to be automated, however, contacting the help.openai.com site and letting them know your views is currently the correct way to let them know about an issue.

Cards will be declined if they have even a single misplaced full stop or comma in the address, telephone numbers and names, they must also allow reoccurring billing and be from a bricks and mortar bank.

Again, this is a developer forum for discussing projects, methods of work, new ideas and best practices, we have no ability to deal with account issues or billing problems. I wish you luck.

Thanks for your answer. Unfortunately, I can’t even get to the development point unless I get API access.

I can understand if it’s annoying to see these posts here, however OpenAI support doesn’t seem to care and maybe someone here knows a solution.

The data is 100% correct, everything triple checked and as I said, the card works everywhere. Backblaze, Google Cloud, AWS, in store offline, Google Play, Amazon orders, etc.

I also find it kind of sad that OpenAI in particular can’t manage to provide a working payment flow. I’m not the only one with this problem.

I can only suggest you contact your card provider and ask for the declined reason, that should be able to point you in the right direction. It’s not annoying, it’s just not productive, I appreciate that speaking with a person right away feels better than dealing with an automated system, and yes, you are right that this needs to improve, but the reality is there is a rate of growth that has no precedent in history and that is unfortunately leading to a lack of humans to support, it will get better with time.

I received the same message as you. I can’t add my Visa card to access the API. At first, I was getting the message ‘your card was declined.’ Now I’m getting the message ‘You are making multiple requests. Please slow down.’ With each request, I check my dashboard, and no card has been added.

The “slow down” is from OpenAI’s payment processor. Too many people are trying to pay OpenAI money. You can try later, maybe after the top of the hour or whenever some rate limit would reset.

I will try again later. I will attempt to access the API billing again 5 hours from now or tomorrow.

I was getting the ‘You are making multiple requests. Please slow down.’ for a couple of days on my desktop. Then I tried through my iPhone and it went through immediately. Hopefully it’ll work for you.

I just tested again. I always have the same answer.
