I’ve been getting the “user quota exceeded” error when trying to upload files to ChatGPT for over 24 hours now.
What I’ve already tried:
I’m on ChatGPT Plus
Deleted all old files
Waited well beyond the 3-hour window (it’s been a day)
Logged out, cleared cache, and switched browsers
This issue is completely blocking my workflow, and I’ve already contacted OpenAI support with no resolution so far. It seems like the quota is stuck and not resetting as it should.
I’m still getting the “User Quota Exceeded” error, and nothing has been fixed. I’ve contacted support at least 8 times, and they told me I’d exceeded the 10 GB limit and it would reset with my billing cycle. My billing reset on April 30 and… nothing changed.
I’ve cleared all my chats, cleared browser cache, offloaded apps, tried everything. Still getting the same error. They said it was escalated to engineering, but I haven’t gotten any real update or fix.
What’s most frustrating is that OpenAI hasn’t even acknowledged that this is a broader issue. If anyone else is still dealing with this, you’re not alone. It really seems like this hasn’t been resolved or even publicly addressed.
Same issue. Can’t even send it a screen shot. First of all, it should be an easier way to del things (in bulk). The way you have to jump thru hoops is ridiculous. They should even make it so that AI can assist in del archived messages or even erasing images in your library. I’m using the app on my pc and it doesn’t give me an option to del.
I think they need to add like “it will reset with the next billing period” something because it is not clear it is a monthly use. And users don’t have chance to see what they used FOR NOW.
Hi, i have the same issue, and it is breaking my whole workflows for everything. This should be more visible to allow understand what quota is used and get more control. This limitations is stopping me completely to continue on anything.
Have you had any resolution to this issue? I am on day 10 (since 5/6/25) of being unable to upload images and receiving the “user quota exceeded” error. I’m so frustrated as emails with support result in deeply hollow AI empathy for my frustration without any meaningful updates, next steps, or indications that this will ever be resolved.
Experienced same here, today I tried to upload file again - it worked as it was.
Do not even know how the things became fine.
No explanations were able to be found.
It’s been about 10 days for me and I’m on team level. I hate to say this out loud but give me the option of buying more space!
The one I found is to utilize Reddit. Post your issue there in the appropriate forum with a boatload of photos and give chat the link. Sites like Imgur are not allowed.
Running into the same error. I can’t get a single prompt through because of this quota issue. I have $120 available, with none having been used all month.
Based on the number of threads I’m seeing about this issue, dating back to 2023, I might just give Claude a shot at this stage
I’ve been getting the ‘user quota exceeded’ error since at least August 1 (probably late July). Still can’t upload, attach, or download the files the model generates—basically locked out of half the features for nearly a month. Even brand-new projects with nothing in them won’t work. I’m on ChatGPT Plus and have already submitted two tickets a week apart with no response.
