The Problem:
- I have been an active users of ChatGPT plus for a few months, but this month, due to some financial issues, I had to get ChatGPT Go, which was free in India
- Now I wanted to upgrade to Plus, but when I open the application, and go to settings, and click on “Upgrade to Plus”, it shows me “you can’t make changes to your subscriptions inside this app”, so I went to google play, where I used to renew Plus from google credits, but, after getting Go, ChatGPT Plus got removed from the “expired subscription” area. Some more information, the payment was done by a third party vendor, stripe.
My tries:
- I first tried to go to web via phone and laptop both, but whenever I try to click “upgrade to plus” It just tells me that there is an error and tells me to go to the support site. But upgrading to pro strangely works. I even tried to go in Incognito and guest mode, but still no progress
- Then I went to cancel the subscription of Go, when I did, even then I could not upgrade to plus.
- so I consulted the support AI, which told me that I had to wait till the time period of Go ended (which is December 4 for me as of now). But then I checked Stripe’s policy on subscription cancellation, it said to consult the business itself, but the AI told me that they cannot cancel the subscription in between and I HAD to wait till 4th December to upgrade to plus
- I also tried logging in and out of ChatGPT. Even deleting data of google play to sign in again, nothing worked. A complete lock.
How this affects me
- I use ChatGPT a lot in general due to my internship, and my niece uses it too for miscellaneous reasons, she uses GPT5-Instant, and 4o, while I use the thinking model selectively, and I need ChatGPT immediately for a task, so it has affected us.
