I am trying to upgrade my ChatGPT account to the Plus plan, Previously used Free Go Plan, but I am consistently facing a payment error.
Error Message:
“Your card may be invalid or authentication may be needed.”

Details:
What I have already checked:

International transactions are enabled
-
Online payments are enabled
-
Sufficient balance is available
-
Retry attempts done on different browsers/devices
Despite all the above, the issue still persists.
I would appreciate your support in resolving this issue or guidance on supported payment methods for my region.
Totally get why that’s frustrating, especially when you’re just trying to upgrade and it blocks you.
This error usually comes down to the payment not going through on the bank side or a mismatch in details. It can also happen if the card needs an extra authentication step that didn’t complete.
A few things that have helped others here:
- Double check card number, expiry, and billing address match exactly
- Clear browser cache/cookies or try a different browser
- Make sure your country and card issuer are supported
- Check with your bank in case they flagged or blocked the charge
- If you can, try a different card or payment method

I’m also facing this same issue unable to upgrade to plus. same card is working in Claude portal @OpenAI_Support
Same card is working perfectly for the other kind of subscription!, no issue on the banking side and contacted banking side also!, why cannot able to upgraded my plan?, Please provide the alternate subscription option via UPI or Some other thing!

Same issue here ! from Gpt Plus to Gpt Pro same error. I tried :
- 3 different cards
- 4 different browser / Private navigation / Cleared cache
- VPN in 3 different places
- Trying upgrade from the App itself on iPhone and on 2 different browser on iPhone
- Cancelling current subscription and trying to take the Pro after
- Changed facturation address
