Hi, I hope I’m doing this right, but I’m creating this topic to appeal for a ban on my OpenAI account. It was banned at 29/8/2023 at 03.22 in Danish time.
I apologize severely for my actions and the ways I’ve been using the AI. I do not wish to give excuses. I am an autistic young adult who really enjoyed playing around with the OpenAI as it was very advanced and fun.
I’ve come to understand that one of my API keys was also accidentally acquired by two people. I don’t know if their actions helped contribute to my ban but if they did I apologize once again on their behalf. And I hope that if I get unbanned I’ll do my upmost to keep my keys safe.
For account related issues please use OpenAI Help Centre in the bottom right corner is a message icon. click the icon and enter your issue, the bot will take your details and a member of the account support team will get back to you, it may take several weeks due to the number of people currently using the system.
There are two main reasons, use from an unsupported country and adult themed/prohibited repeated use. Outside of those, I’ve not heard of anyone being banned, there are problems with certain services that have received a blanket ban, but those services were adult in nature and also violated jail breaking policies.
The developer forum is not able to reverse, affect or otherwise intervene on your behalf, you can reach out to help.openai.com, but that may take some time due to the volume of users.
I’m from the US, and didn’t have anything remotely “adult” themed. Mainly python coding, and I was quite impressed when it started running its own code and fixing mistakes. But, alas.
If you’re certain you or someone with access to your computer/account has not violated any of the terms of use then by all means email support@openai.com or use the help.openai.com bot (bottom right corner).
Mistakes do happen, I’ve just not encountered one with account banning in the 2 odd years I’ve been around here.
But they don’t respond. Tried that 2 weeks ago.
I do continue to get emails about ChatGPT Enterprise,
funny thing is, I was suspended hours after I first responded.
Furthermore, I am in a limbo state. Can someone convince me I
won’t be charged this month, seeing as my account still exists. I am unable
to delete it, despite following the rules to do so.
Really really disappointed in the total lack of customer service most of all.
You should not be charged, there is in fact a huge customer support apparatus in effect, the primary issue is the fastest growth of any product in the history of anything, the number of people using and requiring support of the product outstrips available personal.
It still needs to get better, I understand that fully as one of the people disgruntled users talk to regularly. Hopefully your situation can be resolved speedily and amicably. I wish you good fortune.
Well using the bot help was a bust. My last reply from openai was:
" We’ve confirmed this action was associated with suspicious account activity. Please check that you are accessing OpenAI’s services from a supported country. If you are using a proxy service, it’s possible that the system detected this as a potential trigger for security concerns."
Well, I was using chatgpt from my university in the US, and I was not using a proxy service. Again I see NOTHING that I have done wrong. If someone could define “suspicious activity” it might be useful to others! If I could just start over it wouldn’t be so bad, but oddly enough I’m not one to keep burner phones… And may I add it’s definitely disappointing the landlines can’t be used. Call me old school.
The developer forum is not the correct place for account support. There is no one here able to access your account or make any changes to it’s status. Please use help.openai.com website where there are staff members able to assist.
