Subject: Voice Feature Issue on iOS - Connection Failed

Hello OpenAI Community,

I am a ChatGPT Plus user, and I’ve been experiencing issues with the voice feature on the iOS app. Every time I try to use the voice functionality, I receive the error message “Connection failed. Tap to retry.”

Despite multiple attempts and checking my internet connection, the issue persists. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Any advice or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Same is happening to me for the past few days or more

Same issue with my Iphone xr and my Ipad air (5th gen). I did notice a background message saying ‘connection failed’ Allow live activities from ChatGPT?.. I select ‘always allow’… and nothing changes.

Same connection issue with my iPhone 15, also a paid Plus user.

Mine is solved now. Discovered that my internet connection was too slow for the voice chat to work. Try connecting to a faster connection (maybe wifi) and it should work. Otherwise, make sure your app is updated to the latest version and restart your device.

Tried this. Prioritized my ipad on my 600kbps mesh network. Didn’t work.

Same issue all day. My connection is fine (400Mbps up). iPhone 14. Latest version of the app.

I have the same problem from today. It was still working for me in the morning

Same issue on Mac and iPhone. Worked initially yesterday morning on the Mac, then didn’t work anytime thereafter. Worked earlier today on the iPhone once, then stopped working. I installed the available update, rebooted, etc., but to no avail.

Same issue, subscriber, tried 4.0 and 3.5, wifi and cellular (35 megabits per second)

Same problem. Also a subscriber. “Connection failed, click to retry” message on phone and computer. My wifi is fine. Worked late last night, then again this morning, but not since. I’m wondering if their servers are just overloaded, but I have a friend with a similar hookup who doesn’t have a problem logging in at all.

Same issue for me for the last 5 hours. Interesting that this was working right up until the latest update 5hrs ago. 1.2024.133

I’m a paid plus user. This was the main reason for paying. I feel like asking for a refund if it’s not working soon. I know it’s a new feature so likely to have a few bugs but still.

Update - Its WORKING ! Not sure what changed but I’m pretty sure it was something on their end. Maybe too many people logging in at the same time?

Yeah, mine finally kicked in and started working as well. I do think it’s overloaded on their end. So, I guess the solution is to be patient and wait for your turn if you get that message.

I’m having the same issue too, and I’m a free user. My internet connection is strong, but I still tried to use it on cellular data too but I got the same response. I just reinstalled the app, and nothing’s changed. I’m still getting the same message saying “connection failed”, can someone help us out?

Update: things have been working fine the last couple of days, so I suspect the issue was NOT on my end since I didn’t do anything differently.
