Request for Family Plans for ChatGPT Plus and reasonable pricing

Dear OpenAI Team,

I’d like to suggest introducing a Family Plan for ChatGPT Plus, similar to what platforms like Netflix or Spotify offer. Many families, including mine, would benefit from sharing a plan with individual logins, usage histories, and a shared prompt quota, but without needing to buy multiple separate memberships.

Currently, we stick with the free version because subscribing to multiple Plus accounts isn’t cost-effective for us, even though we don’t use enough prompts to justify three separate memberships. A family plan would be an ideal solution.

This model would attract more subscribers who want to share the benefits within their households, and it could significantly boost adoption and loyalty. I have family plans for Prime, Netflix, Spotify, Office 365, etc. - where is my family plan for chat GPT?

On the other hand even the Plus plan is way too expensive for normal users, who just need some sort of Google 2.0 and maybe try the advanced voice mode from time to time. I have the impression that subscribers, who use ChatGPT Plus just as a google replacement with maybe 10 questions per day in average, are subsidizing power users, such as coders…

I want to encourage to really think about introducing Plus/Family plans, which actually reflect the number of prompts, e.g. the customer should be able to buy 500 prompts per $5 or something like that. $5 per month seems somewhat reasonable for me - $20 unfortunately not. Not for my usage profile…

Thank you for considering this idea!

Best regards,

Feature Suggestion: ChatGPT Family Group Plan

I’d love to see OpenAI introduce a Family Group Plan for ChatGPT that makes the service more accessible for households. The idea is to offer a shared subscription where multiple family members can enjoy the benefits of Plus features—like GPT-4 access and extended capabilities—under a single plan at an affordable price.

Key Features:

  • Shared Plus Benefits: All members receive full Plus access without needing individual subscriptions.
  • Affordable Pricing: Similar to streaming family plans, it could cost slightly more than an individual Plus subscription but cover 4-5 members (e.g., $35/month or lower if reduced individual plan options are available).
  • Shared and Private Memories: Family members can choose to share specific memories (like events or goals) or keep others private. This makes interactions more meaningful without compromising privacy.
  • Admin Controls: A family admin could manage members and control shared memory access, much like existing family account management tools on other services.

This plan would give families practical ways to benefit from AI, like tracking schedules, planning events, and learning together, while being more budget-friendly than business-oriented Team plans.

I love the idea too. I am a data scientist who works with LLMs every day. I have been teaching my young children how to use them effectively and appropriately. Being able to have a shared plan would allow me to monitor and coach them on how to use it better.
Not to mention, I can get some insight into how their generation approaches problems and broaden my own intuition!

I just asked CHAT GPT and he basically agrees that this will provide a whole new way to enhance the experience. For Example.
Absolutely! A family plan could include features that recognize different users based on their profiles or usage patterns. This would allow the platform to implement safety measures, such as:

Usage Tracking: Notifying parents if a minor is using the service, helping to monitor usage and ensuring it aligns with family guidelines.

Content Filtering: Customizing responses or content based on the age or preferences of the user, providing age-appropriate information and ensuring a safer experience.

Accountability: Sending alerts or summaries of usage, which can help parents stay informed about how their children are interacting with the AI.

This level of personalization and safety could significantly enhance the experience for families while ensuring that younger users engage with the technology in a responsible way. It’s a valuable perspective that could benefit both users and developers!

I came to suggest the same. Big family here!

I would also like a family plan. Our children should learn about AI from a young age and be taught to use it responsibly and as an invaluable resource.

Thank you for bringing up this excellent suggestion about a Family Plan for ChatGPT Plus. I completely agree that such a feature would be highly beneficial for families and casual users. It’s a great way to balance affordability while ensuring more users can enjoy the benefits of ChatGPT without the burden of multiple separate memberships.

In the meantime, for those who find the current pricing structure of ChatGPT Plus challenging or prefer a more economical option, there are alternatives worth considering. For example, I recently came across a shared account service [here] Trustaccmart. com that provides ChatGPT Plus access at a more affordable rate. While it may not have the same features as a Family Plan, it could be a useful interim solution for families or individuals with light usage needs.

I hope OpenAI takes note of these ideas and works towards introducing more flexible pricing options, such as family plans or usage-based tiers. It would undoubtedly make ChatGPT even more accessible and appealing to a broader audience.

Best regards,
Sayma
