I’ve been trying to complete the organization verification process (required for access to protected models), but I’m completely blocked due to a technical failure in the Persona face verification step.
Every time I attempt verification, I get this error:
“Couldn’t access camera – We encountered a hardware issue. Please refresh to try again.”
Here’s what I’ve tried (multiple times):
- Tested on two modern Android devices (Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy S23)
- Browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Samsung Internet
- Cleared cache/cookies, tried incognito mode
- Verified all camera permissions at the system and browser levels
- Disabled all extensions
- Tested both Wi-Fi and mobile data
- Restarted devices
The camera works perfectly in all other apps and browser-based video services. It’s clearly not a permissions issue-it’s a compatibility or platform-specific issue with Persona’s camera access.
Persona support responded:
They confirmed that there’s nothing more they can do and directed me to contact OpenAI directly.

Unfortunately, OpenAI support is just repeating basic troubleshooting steps and refusing to escalate the issue. I’ve asked for:
- A restart of the verification process
- Manual ID/selfie upload as an alternative
- Temporary developer access until this is resolved
…but I’m repeatedly being told that “no alternative methods are available” and that they can’t escalate it further.
