Persona Camera Verification Error – Anyone Else Unable to Complete Org Verification?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been trying to complete the organization verification process (required for access to protected models), but I’m completely blocked due to a technical failure in the Persona face verification step.

Every time I attempt verification, I get this error:

“Couldn’t access camera – We encountered a hardware issue. Please refresh to try again.”

Here’s what I’ve tried (multiple times):

  • Tested on two modern Android devices (Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy S23)
  • Browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Samsung Internet
  • Cleared cache/cookies, tried incognito mode
  • Verified all camera permissions at the system and browser levels
  • Disabled all extensions
  • Tested both Wi-Fi and mobile data
  • Restarted devices

The camera works perfectly in all other apps and browser-based video services. It’s clearly not a permissions issue-it’s a compatibility or platform-specific issue with Persona’s camera access.

Persona support responded:

They confirmed that there’s nothing more they can do and directed me to contact OpenAI directly.

OpenAI support so far:

Unfortunately, OpenAI support is just repeating basic troubleshooting steps and refusing to escalate the issue. I’ve asked for:

  • A restart of the verification process
  • Manual ID/selfie upload as an alternative
  • Temporary developer access until this is resolved

…but I’m repeatedly being told that “no alternative methods are available” and that they can’t escalate it further.

I just fixed this issue, but I’m getting a new one.
