TL:DR
OpenAI system had an error about canceling ChatGPT Plus and because of it they cannot fix my student promotion offer.
Sorry If this is a long read but wanted to give as much context as possible. It wasn’t letting me include images of all the conversations and emails so sorry I cant include it.
So I’ve been using ChatGPT a lot since last year and a couple months ago I finally decided to start paying for the 20$ subscription. I saw from reddit that they were doing a promotion of 2 months for free for college/university students and was perfect for me since I’m on my final year. I did the whole verifying student and applying which I did have to reach out to SheerID (in charge of verifying student account) since it was giving me issues but after some tries I got verified.
Here is where the problem starts.
Before getting verified, I had removed my auto renewal of ChatGPT Plus since I would be getting the 2 months free. I didn’t think anything of it until a day after being verified I still didn’t have plus. I decided to reach out to support which apparently looks like the only option they have is some type of chat back and fourth thing, but not live chat, more like leaving messages and when they decide to read/reply. So the first ticket I sent gets a bot reply which I wasn’t entirely surprised about. The next ticket I submit I put in the text that I’d want to talk to an actual person and this time it did reach someone named Maria. The response was nothing what I was expecting. She basically told me that because my billing cycle ends the 2nd of may and I was verified the 1st and also stop my auto renewal on the 1st that I had cancelled my free subscription. Not only do I think its silly that it would cancel a free subscription when trying to cancel a payment, but the worst part about what she said is that either the system itself got it wrong or she was lying. I had been verified the 2nd (day of my subscription ending) and I had stopped the autorenewal the 1st. I wrote back showing her the email time stamps showing SheerID telling me I was verified the 2nd and the farewell email from ChatGPT when I cancelled being the 1st. She ends up not responding so I end up sending another ticket including screenshots of all the emails and the text logs with Maria to give as much information just for them to reply hours later saying to include images, so I’m assuming it was a bot as well? At this point I’m a little bothered and just ignore it for the day. The next day I check again to see if Maria replied which she did but with a message I don’t think id ever see from any support. After seeing the time stamps of the email she now says that the system itself was wrong and that she can now see the correct dates of when it happened, and even after knowing the system was incorrect and made a mistake, her response? Since the billing period ends the 2nd and my account was verified on the 2nd, it ALSO cancelled my free 2 month subscription and there was nothing they could do. I was beyond annoyed at this point and told them that its unfair I have to lose out on something they’re promoting because of an error in their system. I have no idea what to do now. I sent an email that apparently is another support line but haven’t gotten an email back in 3 days, so I’m utterly lost. Does anyone know what I could do?
