Can't Access ChatGPT Plus Account Due to Lost Email Access – Need Help Changing Email or Canceling Subscription

I’m currently logged into my ChatGPT Plus account on my phone, but I’ve been logged out on my PC. The account is linked to an email address which I can no longer access. I’ve attempted all recovery options for that email with no success. It’s also connected to a phone number.

When I try to log in, I’m prompted to verify my login via email, but I can’t receive those emails — so I’m locked out.

I want to change the email address associated with my account or
cancel my ChatGPT Plus subscription, so I can create a new account and re-subscribe.

There is no way every person with a Plus account that cant log in to their account has to pay OpenAI forever right? There has to be a way to sovle this. Right?

Important note:

  • When i try to cancel it the subsciption via the mobile app. I get a message saying: You cant make changes to your subscription inside this app, becuase you already purchased this subscription on another platform.

Also, ChatGPT has the worst support system I have ever encountered. Wow.

Here’s what I would do in this kind of situation:

  1. Contact support, explain the situation in just as much detail as you did here, and document everything.
  2. Reach out to Stripe and ask them to cancel your subscription on OpenAI’s behalf. They will likely refuse to help. Document everything.
  3. Should OpenAI and Stripe refuse to help, prevent them from billing your card. Reach out to your financial institution and ask them to either block further charges from OpenAI or reissue a new card.

If you ever run into issues with OpenAI continuing to bill you, you’ll have plenty of evidence during the dispute process. Let’s hope it doesn’t get to that point.
