I followed the instructions to migrate data from a personal account to a teams account - both using the same company email - and everythign is gone including several custom GPTs that were built, optimized and used Regularly for work. All my projects and their files, conversations, everything gone.
Same here… just signed up for “team” and migrated from my plus.
The only thing it did was to remove my plus account but nothing was moved over to the team…
Same here. It clearly stated that the history will be migrated and will only be deleted if you are ever removed from the team…
I Just got a new reply from the support…

Just a heads-up! When you switch from a Plus account to a ChatGPT Team workspace, your chat history doesn’t transfer automatically. If you didn’t export your chat history before migrating, unfortunately, it can’t be retrieved.
For future reference, you can export your chat history before making such transitions. If you need help with exporting data, see How do I export my ChatGPT history and data?."
So it was not to so much help. Nice that the instructions says:
"What will happen to my data if I merge my workspaces?
All of your existing chat history and GPTs from your Personal workspace will be moved to the Team workspace."
But i have found some other threads where it have been solved:
" I was able to downgrade from ChatGPT Teams to my ChatGPT Plus account with the assistance of customer support via the Chat on help.openai.com. This allowed me to retain all my Conversations and GPTs.
I was informed by customer support that should I wish to update to ChatGPT Teams again, I can currently export my Conversations manually from my ChatGPT Plus account and then use this export file to import it into my ChatGPT Teams account. However, this procedure does not allow for the export and import of GPTs from the ChatGPT Plus account.
I am very pleased to have my conversations restored, but I am reluctant to attempt the upgrade to ChatGPT Teams again. I intend to wait until the feature is available to integrate my conversations and GPTs as part of the standard merging process from Plus to Teams."

Happy day. My history was successfully merged when upgrading from Plus to Teams. Hoping this is permanently fixed now.

For information purposes: I had the same problem. I thought all my gpts and chats were gone but in fact it took 2 days before my chats/gpts were actually migrated to the new team account.
I’m having the same problem. And when I used their chatbot to ask for help, its response was almost literally, “Oopsies! Our bad!” So I spent $600 for OpenAI to lose over two years worth of chats and GPTs. Effing fabulous.
Just had exactly the same problem. Did the migration and only a couple of dozen conversations were retained. All my projects, custom GPTs, everything. Essentially my entire business is now being deleted and pretty lackluster response from OpenAI support. Complete lack of support from a human at this point.
Has anyone else had any luck with this?
I’m having the same issue. I just migrated from a ChatGPT Plus account to a ChatGPT Business account. All my projects went missing. Individual chats are completely out of order. I’m hoping it will correct itself in two days, like others in this chat have mentioned. Crossing my fingers and toes….
Me too - did you retrieve anything yet? Here’s what I got back from their support: You are correct: official OpenAI documentation states that when you merge your Personal workspace into your Business workspace, all your existing chat history and GPTs from your Personal workspace should be moved to your Business workspace, and your personal workspace is deleted after migration. However, it also notes that in rare cases, long-running or historical chats may not be retrievable after the merge, and recommends saving any important conversations before merging. The merge process is irreversible, and if chats did not transfer, unfortunately, they cannot be restored openai.com.
If you have lost everything, it is unfortunately one of those rare exceptions mentioned in the documentation. Let me know if you want guidance on using or organizing your current Business workspace going forward.
How is there no remedy for this? This is like Google just deleting all your Drive files. Anyone from @Support_Desk helping with this? We should at least have a year free of subscription from this catastrophic issue.
I literally had a popup saying “Transfer personal chats to Workspace” and it did nothing.
Honestly, i think we need a refund, as this is completely useless now.. The chat history was the reason i was locked into openai, but i dont see why i wouldnt just use gemini now…

just happened to us. we have just migrated to business from personal $600 2 users and all data and GPTs are gone!!?!/1/? how can we retrieve it? They should at least warn somewhere to back it up. They said ALL conversations and GPTs will be transferred over.

I want to share that similarly to another poster, my chats did return to my original (?) account, not the two new ones I created on the Business plan after min 24 hours. This is the email I received:
First off, we’re very sorry for the delay in getting back to you. As we’ve scaled quickly, we’ve been working hard to catch up with all the interest and outreach from customers like you. We truly appreciate your patience.
We understand how alarming and frustrating it must feel not to immediately see two years’ worth of chats after upgrading to the Business plan — your work is important, and we’re here to help you find out what happened. After checking your account associated with [personal workspace email address], we can confirm that your Personal workspace was successfully merged into your Business workspace, [new workspace name] Workspace, where you are the workspace owner.
Not seeing your chat history right away can be concerning, especially with large datasets. In some cases, migration can take time, and data may not appear instantly. Before we proceed further, we’d like to check whether your chats are still missing on your end. If the issue persists, please let us know so we can investigate further.
To help clarify how migration works, here are some important details:
All existing chat history and GPTs from your Personal workspace should be moved into your Business workspace.
Plugins and Custom Instructions are not migrated — these are deleted upon merging.
If you previously verified a domain in your GPT Builder profile, you will need to re-verify that domain in the Business workspace.
If domain verification fails because the domain is “already verified,” please check and remove it from your Personal workspace Builder Profile.
Custom Instructions do not migrate, so they must be manually copied before merging.
Once migrated, all data becomes part of your Business workspace. If the Business workspace is deactivated, or if you are removed from it, the migrated data becomes inaccessible.
Regarding your refund request, please note that requesting a refund for a Business plan will result in the deactivation of the Business workspace, which means any migrated data stored there would no longer be accessible. Before we proceed, we want to be sure this is what you want, given the impact on your data.
Please let us know if your chat history is still missing, and whether you’d like us to continue with the refund — we’re here to support you every step of the way.
I still have to email them back and ask why the chats didn’t actually migrate. (I also don’t have the Export Data function on any of my accounts and when I tried to get all of my data, all it downloaded was an empty ZIP folder.)
Where did you send an email to to get this information? I went to Open AI chat to ask if it could tell if my merge and confirm it was completed. And it could not. Please let me know what email you used because I have projects I’ve been working on and went to Business and I don’t see my old chats from my personal either.
This same issue just happened to me. I was working on the migration and selected to merge my personal workspace with the business workspace, and nothing happened. I have lost 2 years of chats and project files. Is there any solution for this issue?
Yes, I kept getting no response to my complaints when I chatted with the chatbot. Finally, I started a new chat and just said I wanted to speak to a representative. Then, I restated my problem and it prompted me to enter my email address. Never got a confirmation email or anything about submitting that ticket though, until “someone” from support responded to me about a day later.
The reply-to email address is support@openai.com, and the email I received from them did have a case number attached, so I guess those are actually being tracked somewhere.
Trust me, when I tell you, I know the feeling. Extreme stress. Definitely go to their helpdesk and start a chat asking for a representative and at least you will get a response, even if it takes a day or two.
My chats came back even though they were out of order and the memory, even though it’s almost full, seems to have reset unfortunately. Otherwise, at least the chats are back. Now working on a solution to transfer all the key tidbits to another medium, but that’s a project for another day.
Yes - after emailing support - they have fixed it (transferred all data) for us within a day or so.
