A word of warning about these credits… yes their free and yes they work but be aware that it impossible for you to use them all in less 5 months.
The account associated with your free credits will be a tier 2 account that’s limited spend wise to $500/mo. What that means is that if you use $500 of your free credits in the first 2 weeks of the month your account will be cut off for the remaining 2 weeks and you won’t be able to use that account again until the start of the next month.
Theoretically you should be able to just buy $200 worth of additional credits and within a few weeks level up to tier 3. The problem is OpenAI just stacks the additional purchased credits on the end of your free credits so they don’t count that as spend until you make it through your free credits which is all but impossible to do in less than 6 months.
We ended up having to switch to using a totally separate account that’s ironically now Tier 5 while our primary account with all the free credits is basically stuck at Tier 2. And good luck getting support to help you with any of this stuff. I’m not convinced they know how any of their services actually work.
The key take away is to make sure that the account you use for your free credits is purely an experimental account and you’re ok with it essentially being stuck at Tier 2 usage levels for the next 6+ months.

The thing that made me mad was I actually spent money to buy additional credits thinking it was going to get me to Tier 3 but it didn’t. Not only did it not get me to Tier 3 but I couldn’t even use the credits I bought. The $500/month limit is a hard limit. You could buy $5,000 worth of credits and they will sit there for 6 months without you being able to use them.
So be warned… don’t buy additional credits for an account with free credits because you’re not going to be able to use them.

Can you get anyone at OpenAI to recognize that bugs like this exist? Nope

+1. Microsoft guys told me that OpenAI guys told him that my credits have been added to my account. I checked my account and found nothing. Someone must be a liar…
