Message: "ERROR UNINSTALLING (plugin name)" with unverified plugins - is this a Malware?

I know this post is old, but I’m having these issues. I was using a plugin, and then I went to the plugin store to see what was new. I tried to install something and it gives me the “error installing plugin” message. It gives me the same error for trying to uninstall anything. And now, it doesn’t even show me the plugins that are supposedly installed, so I can’t use any at all.

It certainly looks this issue is rearing it’s head again. I am unable to install/engage with/uninstall any plugins. I have cleared cache, reset the PC, logged out and back in again. and stood on one leg, while patting my belly and whistling Dixie (I can’t believe this didn’t work!), but to no avail.

Is the DEV team doing a mass approval on plugin’s again? Is this simply a wait a few hours thing? I’d be disappointed if I’m paying for GPT 4 and can’t use it as described.

EDIT as of 10:17pm AEST. All plugins are active again. GOD I love this new Dall-E 3 plugin.

same issue here, no installed plugins usable, also cannot install new ones or uninstall old ones. simply nada, nothing, seems to be an overall bug at chatgpt4

I can also confirm. I’ve had an unverified plugin that i installed when another dev was building it three months ago.

It still shows up everytime. I can get it to go away by installing then uninstalling but then it shows back up everytime I reload.

Summary created by AI.

In a thread about users facing an error message saying “ERROR UNINSTALLING (plugin name)” with unverified plugins, Vnnv959 was the first to bring this issue to light. He faced difficulties in uninstalling three unverified plugins named CCDATA, METAPHOR, and WEATHER REPORT, and received the error message when he attempted to remove them.

logankilpatrick and logankilpatrick responded, assuring it’s not malware and recommended trying to sign out and back in. He also clarified that the plugin’s uninstallation is fully controlled by ChatGPT itself.

However, the issue wasn’t isolated to Vnnv959. Other users, including jonathanknight, haolepino, mr.deyil, spiloppendk and as11104014 also encountered the same issue with different plugins. haolepino shared that he can uninstall a plugin when it moves back to “All Plugins” from the “Unverified” section.

iamflimflam1 shared some insights, explaining that the “unverified” status of a plugin could stem from a change in the plugin’s manifest file, and that OpenAI would have to review and re-approve it before the plugin goes back to being “verified”. The consensus is that, while it’s a growing problem as Tom_RH mentioned, the issue is a temporary one and is non-malware related.
