Image creation limit, 720 hour wait

I was in the midst of an image heavy project when I got this message:

You’ve hit the plus plan limit for image generations requests. You can create more images when the limit resets in 720 hours and 0 minutes. Until then, I can still help you: Refine prompts, Plan compositions, Create SVGs or layout files manually, Mock up layout guides for exports.

I wasn’t given any alternative for creating more images; no upsell for an image subscription, no way to buy more images or pay for them with each generation. I tried to use the API, but the same prompt on the API gave dismal results. I was told that prompts given to chatGPT are processed to make better results, but not given the specifics of how that was done. I have lost confidence in using chatGPT for important matters, since it appears services can just disappear with no warning and no recourse. I searched for a way to put in a ticket, as was suggested by chatGPT, but apparently that doesn’t exist.

Feature requests:
A way to officially enter feedback via the ChatGPT interface and get a trackable ticket number. Perhaps this needs to be a ChatGPT plus (extra) plan. The jump from amateur to pro, or 20 to 200 dollars a month, seems a bit excessive.

Release actual guidelines on prompting for a successful image, as is done in chatGPT post processing

Have a context token indicator in conversation windows, so that users know when the model will begin to drift.

When resources, such as image generation are arbitrarily limited, have an indicator so that users know what to expect.

Provide an upsell for image generation past the current chatGPT plus limit. This could be a one time charge for the month to cover computing time, or enabling a per image charge, etc.

What I don’t find acceptable is being cut off in a project that is important to me, abruptly, with no way to fix it.

Hitting this today.

”You’ve hit the pro plan limit for image generations requests. You can create more images when the limit resets in 720 hours and 1 minute.”

Pro plan, 200 USD a month, and I can’t generate a single image with it.

I am confused and concerned about the image generation limits.
I have generated fewer than 10 images in an entire month, yet I was suddenly blocked and told to wait 720 hours.

There is no way to contact a human support agent—only automated bot responses, with no ticketing or escalation path. For a paid Pro service, this is unacceptable.

There was no warning, no usage indicator, and no explanation of how this limit was calculated. This experience makes me seriously question whether continuing with ChatGPT Pro is worthwhile.

Limits should be transparent and proportional, with a clear option to reach human support or purchase additional capacity when needed.

I haven’t generated a single image and I’ve reached this limit.

I have the same issue here, most of the time, I only ask questions and get answers; I don’t create images. I’m paying $200 per month for the Pro plan, yet I’m unable to generate images.

I have the same issue for second week now, $200 per month and I can’t generate a single image.

I’m on the first day of this problem. It’s a $200 subscription. I just tried the Photoshop GPT app, and it seems like no more than ten prompts, and in the process I got the message: “You’ve hit the Pro plan limit for image generation requests. You can create more images when the limit resets in 720 hours and 1 minute.” It feels like I didn’t even generate a single image.

Me toooooo
I have never generated a single image.
I got :
You’ve hit the pro plan limit for image generations requests. You can create more images when the limit resets in 720 hours and 1 minute.

It is a $200 subscription

i have exactly the same problem, i do a video on my youtube channel (french = Alucare Tech)

Dear OpenAI, this is unacceptable for me. I can see this issue has been around since August and you’ve been ignoring it. You don’t need to look into my case, I’ve already picked up a few subscriptions to other image AI tools and Claude Max. Goodbye.

Same problem. Pro-sub, never generated an image in current billing period

Has anyone resolved this issue? I haven’t received a response from support and the problem isn’t solved. I plan to write about this every day until the problem is resolved. And I don’t plan to be your client after this. The point is that you ignore users for 10 days and I’m sure you won’t return the money.

This has been broken for over a month and Support has not fixed it.

I’m on Pro and I’m still getting a full-cycle lockout message:

“You’ve hit the Pro plan limit for image generation requests. You can create more images when the limit resets in 720 hours and 1 minute.”

720 hours = 30 days. That is not rate limiting. That’s being locked out for an entire billing cycle of a core, advertised Pro feature.

This looks like an account quota / entitlement problem, not an intermittent failure, but whatever the cause, the outcome is the same:

Users are paying for Pro subscription and can’t use a core feature.

What we need from @OpenAI_Support staff here:

  1. Confirm whether this “720 hours” lockout is an account entitlement/quota bug.

  2. Have someone with access verify and correct the impacted accounts and fix entitlements/quota state (and remove any incorrect flags).

  3. Post the escalation path and timeline for resolution, because Support has not delivered one.

  4. Confirm the remediation for affected users (credit/refund), because this is prolonged failure to deliver paid functionality.

I can provide screenshots, timestamps, platform details, and my support case number via DM.

Oh I probably figured out the bug. It looks like image generation loops the single image generation request multiple times for us until our quota is full. Single request is using up the full quota in a backend request loop. @OpenAI_Support

I have been receiving the same response indicating that the case would be escalated to the Support Engineering team since January 21, and nearly 10 days have now passed since the issue first occurred, yet there has been no resolution or concrete progress, and the situation remains unchanged.

During this entire period, I have been paying for the ChatGPT Pro subscription, which costs 6,990 THB per month (approximately 224 USD). This is a significant expense for me, and it is very difficult to justify continuing to pay this amount while being unable to use a core Pro feature for such an extended time.

While I understand that investigations can take time, the combination of the prolonged duration, repeated responses without updates, and the ongoing financial cost makes this situation particularly concerning and unfair as a paying user.

@OpenAI_Support

Do we have any options to escalate this? Because support is no answering me either

I no longer trust OpenAI in an imaging workflow. I’m on a Mac, and set up comfyUI and the environment around that, which seems to work well.

Experiencing the same thing here. $200/mo pro plan. I’ve generated maybe 4 or 5 images in the last 2 months, and can’t get a single one to work now.

The VPN worked for me. This advice was given to me by this guy from X @viet2nt. Thank him again, he is a genius in this situation!

I am submitting a formal complaint regarding a persistent image generation failure on my ChatGPT Pro account. Despite being informed that my image generation restriction was lifted, the feature remains unusable due to a rate-limit error. This issue has persisted for over three weeks and is still ongoing, indicating a serious backend quota or synchronization failure on your system. This is not a user-side error. As a paying Pro subscriber, I rely on image generation for professional work, and this prolonged malfunction has caused continuous disruption and loss of productivity.I request immediate verification and reset of my image generation quota. If this issue cannot be resolved promptly, I expect a clear explanation and appropriate remediation.
