Please exercise caution when deleting a ChatGPT account.

Question
What happens if a ChatGPT account is deleted? Can the same phone number be used to sign up again?
Reply
Deleting your ChatGPT account is a permanent action and cannot be undone. (ref 1). Once deleted, you will be prevented from using the account to access OpenAI services, including ChatGPT, API, and DALL·E. You will not be able to create a new account using the same email address. (ref 2)
Your data will be deleted within 30 days, except for a limited set of data that may be retained for longer where required or permitted by law. (ref 2) Deleted chats are hard deleted from OpenAI systems within 30 days, unless they have been de-identified and disassociated from your account. (ref 3)
As for reusing the same phone number, OpenAI currently allows only three accounts (including deleted accounts) to be associated with a phone number. This means that once you have used the same phone number for three accounts, you cannot create any additional accounts with that phone number, even if you delete the accounts. (ref 4)
Please note that deleting your account does not allow you to change your authentication method. (ref 5)
Same issue with ChatGPT plus (personal plan)
I wanted to download invoices but it’s not loading “my plan” since yesterday.
Hope they will fix it soon
any tips on how to get the invoices in the meanwhile you are fixing this issue?
In my case, I was able to successfully resolve the issue of not being able to press the “My Plan” button in Google Chrome by switching to Firefox.
I’m using Firefox 122.0 and I still face the same issue. Nothing appears when I click on the “My Plans” button. (My ads blocker is also disabled.)
Anyone else ?
I am fairly sure this is the same for all subscribers of ChatGPT Plus.
As noted, it seems to work correctly for ChatGPT Team.
Can’t say what happens for ChatGPT free account. If someone wants to post a screenshot would be nice to have.
In the case of the Plus plan, I cannot click the “My Plan” button.
The environment is Firefox’s regular mode (Version 122.0 (64-bit)) running on Windows 10.
The console screen displays the following:
Source map error: Error: request failed with status 404
Resource URL: https://cdn.oaistatic.com/_next/static/chunks/pages/_app-a58796752d470ac0.js
Source map URL: _app-a58796752d470ac0.js.map
When I tried it in Private Window, I was able to click “My Plan.” Therefore, please try logging in using “Private Window” in Firefox and click “My Plan.”
In my environment, the menu was displayed correctly.
It also worked in the incognito mode of Google Chrome (121.0.6167.86 Official Build 64-bit) running on Windows 10.
Thank you for your response.
The issue is not that clicking on My plan
doesn’t function correctly; the problem lies in the fact that the new dialog does not contain the Manage my subscription
link. Your images are lacking this crucial piece of information.
Before the introduction of ChatGPT Teams, we would receive a dialogue like this:
which included Manage my subscription
After the introduction of ChatGPT Teams:
- On a ChatGPT Team account, clicking
My plan
redirects you to a dialog that includes a link forManage my subscription
. - On a ChatGPT Plus account, clicking
My plan
redirects you to a dialog that lacks a link forManage my subscription
.
The issue here is that the Manage my subscription
link is absent for ChatGPT Plus accounts. Consequently, many users are unable to manage their ChatGPT Plus subscription. In other words, users who wish to cancel their ChatGPT Plus subscription are currently unable to do so. This situation leaves them with a challenging decision: continue paying for ChatGPT Plus or delete their account.
As noted by the OP in the first post
I want to cancel my personal account
can not currently be done for a ChatGPT Plus subscription.
Thank you for pointing that out.
I have checked, including whether the manage plan functions properly or not. It is functioning properly, and I was able to navigate to the subscription management screen in Firefox’s private window mode.
Below are the screenshots.
In incognito mode on Google Chrome, the website navigation was the same.
Thanks for the update.
This image clearly indicates this was created using a ChatGPT Plus subscription
and it shows the crucial link for Manage my subscription
.
That is a good sign but still don’t know why some of us, including me can not get a dialog with the crucial link for Manage my subscription
.
I did try both FireFox and Chrome Incognito mode and was unable to get a dialog with the crucial link for Manage my subscription
.
Indeed, it’s a critical bug that when Plus plan subscribers want to cancel their subscription, they can’t do so and have to delete their entire account instead.
If the account is deleted, although it’s currently possible to create a new ChatGPT account without a new phone number, all data will be lost.
No matter how easy it is to create a new ChatGPT account, not having the option to cancel is a serious problem.
As a non-English speaker, I also encountered the same issue. However, I found a quite straightforward solution: go to settings&beta → language → change to any language other than the default → switch back to auto-detect → refresh the page → join the preview version, and then my plan can be opened.
In my case, simply switching to English allows “my plan” to always open.
However, when it came to upgrading to a team plan, the page displayed a message: “Your CVC is wrong, just give up! Don’t even think about it!” Anyway, I hope this helps some of you.
Can you provide a screenshot that shows it is on an OpenAI page.
My colleague at work (who took out his own Plus subscription later than me) has no problem opening “my plan”. I still have, though. Fortunately, the workaround here with the direct URL in the incognito browser helped, thank very much!
I have the same issue. Nothing happens when clicking My Plan. I get these errors:
It works in incognito mode (Chrome). You can’t be serious.
Can confirm. Still does not work in normal Chrome. Works in Incognito Mode…lol
