Error saving GPT - Internal Server Error

Same here …………………………………………

When I try to Save/Update my custom GPT after uploading a file in Knowledge, it fails with:

“Error saving GPT… Internal Server Error”

What I tried

  • Uploading different formats: PDF, DOC/DOCX, TXT, VTT

  • Very small file test (tiny TXT) — still fails

  • Removing the file → Save works

  • Adding file again → Save fails

  • Tried multiple times (same result)

Thanks for the update. I’ve checked the status page and I’m really hoping this gets fixed as soon as possible, as this issue is currently blocking my work with Custom GPTs. Appreciate the team looking into it.

I’m unable to save/update any Custom GPT configuration when adding a Knowledge file. Every attempt fails with “Error saving GPT – Internal Server Error” and the browser console shows a 500 response / “RequestError: Internal Server Error”. This happens with any file type and even very small files (1KB).

I have already tried the full troubleshooting checklist (all 8 steps), including:

  • Incognito/private window, disabling extensions

  • Logging out/in, hard refresh

  • Clearing site data/cache/cookies/history

  • Trying different browsers (Chrome/Edge) and a clean session

  • Removing/re-adding the Knowledge file

  • Reducing instructions and saving incrementally

  • Creating a brand-new Custom GPT and also duplicating an existing one

The issue persists across all Custom GPTs and prevents saving Knowledge entirely

We deployed the fix and the issue should be resolved going forward! Please do flag to us if you're still experiencing issues.

It works again! Finally and thanks!

Status shows Resolved, but the issue hasn’t been fixed yet…
Even after deleting the file and re-uploading it, an Internal Server Error occurs and the save error persists.
I previously went back and forth with the OpenAI Help Center for quite a while and the issue was temporarily resolved, but the error has occurred again.

The root cause of the issue that caused massive GPT update failure was resolved, so, if you are still having issues, these are likely unrelated - for that please contact Support through the Help Center and provide the Custom GPT URL for us to take a look at the individual configuration.

Thanks!
