I’m very confused about how credit grants relate to billing. Is the credit grant the same thing as what appears in billing, or are they separate? The amounts don’t seem to match, which makes it unclear to me whether the credits are part of what I’ve already been charged or something additional.
I’m also confused because the dashboard shows that I have used $0.00 in credits, even though I have already spent around $70 I think. I don’t see any of the credit grants being marked as used, and the ‘Usage’ page also shows $0.00. This makes it difficult for me to understand where my spending actually came from and how the credits are being applied.
For some bizarro reason, OpenAI obfuscated the payment date in the “credit grant” screen.
A credit grant item is where your purchase of prepaid credits lands. It is back-dated to the end of the previous month.
An invoice is your transaction between Stripe for the payment being processed (the actual date/time). It will include tax that does not land as credits depending on your location.
The first figure in $6.00/$7.00 is how much of a particular item is left. So it looks like you have been on a spending spree without using the credits. (Clever is to put in varied amounts so you can actually correlate the credit grant item with the masqueraded date to an actual purchase - if that was you).
You paid almost every hour here in the screenshot to buy more API credits.
It may be that auto-recharge is malfunctioning and charging you if you didn’t manually go in and “buy more” - a feature to shut off immediately and contact support for a refund if true.
Thanks for the clarification! No, I didn’t manually add these credits; I turned on auto-recharge and set to charge when the balance falls below $5. My understanding was that my existing credit grants would be used first, and that my card would only be charged once the balance actually dropped below $5. However, from what I see on the dashboard, the credits seem to have kept accumulating while I was still being billed, which feels very strange to me. Ye I think maybe something is not working as expected with the auto-recharge system.
