Wondering if anyone has any sanity check for me here. Here’s the timeline:
November 30: Received $175 credit grant.
Dec 11: Added $175 worth of payment credits ($197.75 after taxes)
Since then, I’ve used approximately $30 worth of tokens. The odd part is that my credit balance shows the same amount is remaining on my paid credit balance as from the credit grants. Therefore, they are being double counted in a way - my credit grants AND my paid grants are being used at the same time. Is it because these are only reconciled at the end of the month or something?
Just to confirm a couple things - this is in the same organization, yes. And the credit balance, I don’t believe includes the credit grants, because I have MORE than that amount of credit grants available (again, see screenshot).
You did not “receive credit grants” in the way you think you did. “Grants” does not mean “a place for free stuff”. It is where all incoming prepayments are shown. Background: The interface was reused for a new mandatory prepayment system when API organizations were forced off of monthly post-paid billing plans.
The credit grants area has a major intentional obfuscation. The payment you made during a month is back-dated to an earlier date at the start of the month. So, pay on December 11, then you see November 30. Make lots of little payments in October, they all show as September 30.
The flaw that I see with your account is that funds should be taken from the grant line item that is first to expire. Here, you have $5.21 available from $5.21 at the bottom, the full amount and first payment, and it expires October. OpenAI should not be stealing from the newest payment that expires December so that these earlier funds would expire first, never being used. Then there is other happenstance use of credits, as if the $4.03 balance is also being overlooked. This whole presentation here that I see in your screenshot is bordering on fraud.
Issue
there are two credit items with a balance, but they are being completely overlooked in both calculating “Credit Balance” and also in being used.
Required OpenAI Action:
Fix: This organization demonstrates a significant breach in the expected behavior. The cause of first-to-expire funds not being used first must absolutely be discovered and repaired. This could be a failure in the database of this org to find the correct payment item to deduct usage from, such as corruption breaking the queries, up to a significant algorithm error that affects many.
Quick fix, solution that doesn’t discover the issue: Add working $5.21 + $4.03 to this API organization, 12+ month expiry.
