ChatGPT Memory Saving Issue

ChatGPT is unable to save medium-large text blocks and basically can only save fairly short one, however a work around is asking it to break it into parts but its still very tedious and annoying.

Same here, very annoying. I use it for creative writing, worldbuilding, characters, etc. and never had any issues with paragraphs or detailed entries. Now it only let’s me add them one at a time and very short stripped down versions. I’m praying it’s a bug and not an intentional change. It feels very restrictive considering what they encourage us to use it for.

I am somehow getting no memory use whatsoever, regardless of block size, and much like Valkyrie I use it for Creative writing, worldbuilding, and some alt-history and have used memory on mass, and have never for more than an hour or so had it simply not save anything, it will prompt next to the output that it did with a memory saved tab, but if I go check settings nothing is there, regardless of size or scope, which at the least makes me think this is a bug on GPT end as others are beginning to pop up either with total or partial memory issues

thankfully i think it is a bug due to the large uptick in the past 20ish hours of this issue and due to combing the website and pestering the AI for anything that would suggest a intentional change, but if it is… ouch, that would suck

I’m a roleplayer, character designer, and basically ask chatGPT for help with lores and stuff, and I’ve been experiencing the same issue since around yesterday and today as well. I think it’s a bug because ChatGPT claims it’s ‘saved memories’ when I tell it to save large paragraphs of details in its memory. If it’s not, then it’s going to be pretty hard and time-consuming to get things in its memories.

Maam is it really a bug can you say it again and I’m a story writer and i will lose my hard work if it is any intentional feature

Its been going for some people for days. So, I think its been a bit before it gets fixed if it hasnt been in those couple days. Or, they werent aware of the issue until now

This bug or restriction is so annoying like 50 words? And only one paragraph? If its a new policy or restriction or whatever then ffs it should have been 300-400 words not 50 words and only one paragraph thats not a restriction thats an crime and prison towards saved memories

They mentioned it as temporary limitation or temporary issue and mostly mentioned it as bug to many users in response reply

Been going on for 3 days, this is seriously getting annoying. Even now after I woke up it’s not processing my details in it’s memory even though it’s saying “Saved in memory”, and when I go to manage memories it’s completely empty.

its like super annoying i usually uses it to clarify character connection and information and save stuff its so frustrating only being able to save a sentence basically to memory. like im so confused is it a bug or a semi or even permanent decision, if so its stupid.

I’VE BEEN HAVING THE SAME ISSUE! It used to be able to save so many paragraphs and now it claims to have saved it in memory but doesn’t, it’s so annoying long term :sob: I use Chat GPT to create stories I can read with lore and characters and everything for entertainment and I’m gonna PRAY it gets fixed or isn’t permanent cause it’s so annoying </33

Same here. It couldnt save more than a sentence for me.

Well they will fix this issue they’ve made since its got everyone complaining

They will fix the issue but it will take time since whether it’s a bug or technical issue it will take time to identify the root cause of problem and they will have to find a solution with out causing the problem to all other users and the far complicated the issue is the more time it will take actually it has been three days already and may take two days to 5 days atleast for now

Yeah… I also use it for stories and stuff, so I’d o use a lot of ChatGPT’s memory. And today I wanted it to convert all of those separate memories into one. So, it did that, but when I told it to save it. It said “Updated Saved Memory” but when I went to check, the memory was not updated!!

New response from support. From the response it sounds like it is NOT something they are looking into

Hello,

Thank you for getting back to OpenAI Support, and we appreciate your detailed observation.

We understand you’re still experiencing an issue where memory only saves very short entries—typically a sentence or two—even after trying all suggested troubleshooting steps. You’ve also pointed out that other users are reporting the same behavior across forums and Reddit, and you’re asking whether this has been officially acknowledged as a bug by the OpenAI team.

At this time, the issue is not listed on our status page, which focuses on large-scale outages or fully degraded functionality. However, your report is valid, and this behavior has been escalated internally for further review. These kinds of nuanced feature degradations may take time to be formally recognized, but user reports like yours are key in helping us track and prioritize them.

To help us investigate more efficiently, please send the following:

  • Steps to reproduce the issue
(e.g., the type of content you tried to save, how you triggered memory to save it, and what happened after)
  • A screenshot/screen recording of what you’re seeing—either the failed memory entry, what is saved, or how it appears in Settings > Personalization > Manage Memory

This information will help our engineering team identify and address the issue more quickly.

Thanks again for your patience—we’ll make sure your report is shared with the appropriate team.

Best,
Justin J

Only a short sentence will be recorded. If I want him to record more rules in one memory, I can’t. He returned “recorded” and didn’t actually.

It has been very stressful that I am not keeping very important information! When will you fix this problem?
