I have the same problem with Firefox, when I write Freeze chat, I have to open a new tab to continue the conversation…
It’s strange because I haven’t had this problem before…
So, I also want to give a short report. For me, it’s been the same for 3 days now - when I enter a message in ChatGPT, the chat freezes, and the text doesn’t get sent.
I tried clearing the browser cache and cookies for a solution, and it worked…
Until I reopened the browser. WTF!
Okay, then I tried deleting only OpenAI’s cookies, but it didn’t work.
BUT, I found a stupid workaround:
I use German as the interface language. When I switch it to automatic, writing works again. Even if I switch it back to German right afterward. (Of course, only until I close the browser. Then I have to do the workaround again.)
I have no idea why exactly this helps me. But maybe it helps others, and I just wanted to share my discovery. Thanks - and hopefully, this will be resolved soon.
Same here, works on Chrome and on the app, but Firefox freezes almost immediately after trying to enter a prompt. I hate Chrome with a burning passion so I’d rather not have to use it to make ChatGPT work.
Not even Chrome is working. The questions just get stuck. However, Firefox and Chrome do work in incognito mode…
Same here. The only way I can work with it is with incognito mode. I can navigate through old conversations, change config, log in/out, but it just freezes when I sent a prompt. It stopped working while I was working with it and its been 5 days already.
I am using Firefox version 123.0.1 (latest). I have been experiencing this issue since the beginning of this month. Wondering why is there no response from OpenAI yet?
For some reason it works when opening a new private window. Any other solutions yet?
The temporary solution from @Ichweisvonnix seems to be working. So if I switch the language to something else and back to “automatic” it works again until I close my browser. Not the best workaround, but at least it is a workaround.
Had the same problem. Resetting the Cookies and Website-Data solved it for me.
I solved the firefox problem doing this steps.
- Logout
- Remove all stored data from openai domain in my browser (localStorage, Cookies, etc)
- Login
Now works for me
I tried this and yes, you are correct. This appears to be an overlay div presumably intended, based on its name, to ensure that we paid for the service. I did pay for the service! This is super annoying. I deleted the div and the page responds once again.

Logging out is not strictly necessary, if you press F12 you can just go to “Storage” and then under “Cache Storage”, “Cookies” etc just right click and choose “Delete All” whenever possible – your session will not survive this anyway.
I cleared my cache and cookies in Firefox. Signed out of Chat then signed back in again., It still doesn’t work.
I tried deleting <div id="enforcement-containerchatgpt-paid">..</div>. in the page. Didn’t fix the error.
Ha! I actually managed to get Chat up long enough to ask it how to fix it and it worked. Here are the instructions for resetting Firefox. Just clearing the cache in settings is not enough.
Open Firefox.
In the address bar, type 'about:support' and press Enter. This will open the Troubleshooting Information page.
In the upper-right corner of the page, you should see a button labeled "Refresh Firefox...". Click on it.
A confirmation dialog will appear. Click on "Refresh Firefox" to confirm.
This will reset Firefox to its default state while preserving essential information like bookmarks and browsing history.
If the issue persists even after refreshing Firefox, it might indeed be a specific problem with the Chat Browser or Firefox itself. In that case, reporting the issue to Firefox support or the developers of the Chat Browser would be the next step to get further assistance.

The simpliest way to fix this is to add ##enforcement-containerchatgpt-paid to your adblocker.
You can either manually add this id to adblocker blacklist, or, depending on adblocker you use, wait until banner appears, then click right mouse button → “Block element”.

Having same problem as well – gets me moving to Bing.
Same for me on firefox only. Chromium is totally fine.
If i try to select custom gpt in store or if i try to choose gpt4 in top left menu instead of gpt3.5 i get error screen “Oops, an error occurred! Try again”
