ChatGPT Export Data to Email Not Working

I tried many times and never got the email but then I solved the problem. I don’t guarantee it will work for you.
I opened Settings → Data control and saw that there is a possibility to disable model training on my data which was not available when I started to use ChatGPT. I instantly turned it off. After that I tried Data export again and I got the email. Download failed the first time, but I tried the second time and it worked.

Sometime you have to change something to reset settings. This approach solved my problems in multiple apps…

After I selected to export the records, I received an email. However, when I clicked the hyperlink in the email, this is all I got.

{“detail”:“Not found.”}

{"detail":"Invalid signature or expired URL"}

they still didn’t solve it this thread is opened last year

Hello everyone,

I wanted to share my recent experience in case it helps others who may be running into the same problem.

  • When I requested a data export, I received the email link, but clicking it only gave the error: detail: not found.

  • The problem was that I had logged into the ChatGPT app with my Naver account, but into the web version with my Google account.

  • The export link was requested from my Naver account, but it was actually tied to the Google account I was logged into. That’s why the export failed — I never requested the export using my Google account.

  • Once I logged into the web version with my Naver account (the same one I used in the app), the export worked correctly.

Takeaways:

  • If you get detail: not found when downloading data, check that you’re logged into the correct account (the same one you used for the export request).

I hope this helps others who are stuck on the same issue.

I ran into the same problem others have reported. I clicked Export Data in SettingsData Controls, got the “export successful” confirmation, but no email ever arrived. I tried both from my desktop PC while on a VPN and the Android mobile app without a VPN. The mobile app did eventually send me the email, but when I clicked the link inside, all I saw was a JSON object with { "detail": "Internal Server Error" }.

What solved it for me was deleting around 80 old (throwaway) conversations that contained lots of pasted text. After that I retried the export from the mobile app without a VPN, and this time it worked instantly. I got the email, clicked the link, and was able to download my data.

Hope that helps someone else.

It is now October 2025 and the export link is not arriving in my inbox. I know the email works because I just got a verification email link to join this forum from OpenAI ! Anybody have any ideas? Or did everyone just give up on it?

i’m having the same issue and I just deleted a bunch of throwaway chat threads I mean I do have project files that have chat threads in them files that are uploaded and I’ve been trying for the last two days to try to get the export link sent to my email and still nothing
