I requested a ChatGPT data export, received the download link, but the download consistently fails after a short time. I tried different browsers (Firefox, Chrome), networks, and PowerShell. The link generates correctly, but the download doesn’t complete. Any solutions?
I’ve reported this to OpenAI a few days ago. So it’s on the list of things to look into.
It appears as though the process is terminating whilst exporting audio files. If you rename the incomplete download’s extension to .zip and then extract it, it would seem everything is intact except the last file.
I have managed to get the file to download successfully. Each time the file failed to download it would contain folders with chat GUIDs - many of those when accessed said ‘Transcript Unavailable’. Removing one at a time, it would be replaced by another.
After and during resolving all of these, the dalle-generation folder grew in size, eventually taking 40mb+ in the zip file. I went through and found the chats where I had the generations done, downloaded the images and deleted the chat.
After repeating this a few times, the file exports successfully - the file size is 109MB now. At some stages the file grew to 132mb or 80mb; the failure point seemed to be inside a bugged chat, possibly where the original files went missing so the export process failed.
I’m having the same issue. It gets to around 200MB each time and then fails.
Sometimes “Network error” sometimes “No file”. My internet connection is fast/robust.
Renaming the .crdownload
file to .zip
doesn’t work (can’t open the zip).
+1 I’m experiencing the same issue where the ChatGPT history export download fails consistently at around 230 MB. I’ve tried renaming the .crdownload
file to salvage the data, but that didn’t work either.
Would love to hear if anyone has found a workaround or if OpenAI has acknowledged this as a known issue. Thanks in advance to the community for sharing insights!
so no solution to this yet?
same problem here aswell cant download my export data
I only want the JSON file. It’d be nice to have the option to omit the rest.
Just tried again with a new export—same problem.
I’m having the same problem. This never happened before. My last export was somewhere in November or December and all was fine. I’ve been searching through this community for answers, but haven’t found any, and the bot on the help page won’t let me ask it questions and also there is no help for this on the help page. I really want my download to work. I need the data and I don’t want the images or anything else but the chats.
(*Edit: I tried many hours later and it worked. I still don’t know what the problem was.)
Same issue here Would be really nice if OpenAI could fix this soon!
Looks like this is an ongoing issue - has anyone heard from OpenAI about this and what they are doing to fix it?
Same issue. Might it be failing for folks using Projects extensively (or Archives or Tasks)? I have large ChatGPT Projects in progress and I also use it for file management (i.e. folders). Is anyone else here using Projects? Might it help if we stop using OpenAI Projects?
Incidentally I’m on Chrome via macbook m2 with high internet speeds. My download size appears to be 330 MB when it fails on my mac (first with a “check internet connection” message, then with a “file wasn’t available on site” message.
I’m having the same issue, after around 300mb of quite-fast download it says “Network Error” and fails. That’s consistent and happens on both Chrome and Safari. My internet is stable and fast.
Chiming in - same issue here. I’m seeing nothing from OpenAI about this. I have LOTS of projects, some of which are large, but it’s always been able to export my data in the past, huge projects and all.
Hi, I have the same issue, earlier in November I could download well, but now it fails after 140 Mb.
Same problem here. I even tried a 3rd party download manager, but apparently the link from openai is session-based and so it couldn’t access the link to the zip file. but normal download from chrome and edge just keep failing. I am floored that OpenAI hasn’t fixed this issue yet.
same issue here hope this be fixed asap
