Charged beyond monthly limit

I set a monthly limit of 250$/mo.
But till this morning, a total of around 4000$ is charged.
Why the limit is not working?

Although I’m not sure if my key has been leaked, regardless, the monthly limit should serve as a last resort safeguard, shouldn’t it?

I have already received mail saying that You’ve reached your API monthly budge and the API requests will be rejected at Oct 18. However, it has still been invoicing me even today, which is four days after the limit was reached.

Hi,

Welcome to the forum

You can get help from the support system at help.openai.com. The Developer forum is run by volunteers with no access to accounts or billing.

You should IMMEDIATELY cancel and recreate your API keys in case leaked.

Also, if you can, I could suggest removing auto-recharge as a temporary measure

Usage limits

Manage your API spend by configuring monthly spend limits. Notification emails will be sent to members of your organization with the “Owner” role. Note that there may be a delay in enforcing limits, and you are still responsible for any overage incurred.

I have already remove all my api keys in my account.
I know there is a delay, but 4 days delay!?
I have exceeded my limit at Oct 18. It is still charging today!

I understand your concern.

I don’t have any further advice I can give myself other than above to turn off auto-recharge also and maybe contact your card issuer to block future payments if there is any delay from OpenAI support at help.openai.com.

I contacted support via the Help page, but received no human response. I have noticed in this forum that many other people have encountered the same problem as me. I was hoping to find a solution if someone had already solved this problem, but unfortunately, I had no luck.

Why would the user be responsible if it’s the company’s fault for not upholding their statement that we can manage the usage? And then it goes on to say, but we’re responsible for overages. That in itself means that we cannot manage it. It’s unmanageable and it shouldn’t be an option. So how about hell? Are they even allowed to say that?

This is something you would have to ask OpenAI directly at this link http://help.openai.com/

Right on man that’s good to hear honestly. Got to be devil’s advocate though and say I hope fighting back the way that they want you to doesn’t come back to bite you. It’s more terrifying too, if I had children or family I’d be a lot more lenient towards those things. The fact that you’re still going after it says you got a lot of chutzpah lol. Good luck
