Can a released email address be re-bound to a different existing account?

Hi everyone,

I have two OpenAI accounts (Account A with Email A, Account B with Email B), and I’m trying to swap their email bindings using a third intermediary email (Email C) as a temporary placeholder.

The intended steps would be:

  1. Change Account A: Email A → Email C

  2. Change Account B: Email B → Email A

  3. Change Account A: Email C → Email B
    I noticed the official help page says “you cannot use your previous email address to create a new account”, but I’m wondering:

  • Does this restriction apply to binding a released email to an already existing account as well?

  • Has anyone successfully completed a similar email swap between two existing accounts?

  • Is there any official statement on how long (if ever) it takes for a previously used email to become available again?
    Any insights from the community or OpenAI staff would be greatly appreciated!
