[Bug Report] UPI payment option completely broken on Web Browser for Indian users

Hi community and OpenAI team,

I am writing to report a major, persistent issue with the ChatGPT Plus subscription and free trial checkout screen on the web interface (chatgpt.com) for users in India.

The Issue:
When attempting to check out on a desktop browser, the interface clearly shows UPI as an available and supported payment option. However, selecting UPI fails completely. It loops or errors out immediately without ever generating the UPI QR code or pushing an autopay mandate request to any UPI apps (GPay, PhonePe, Paytm).

Why this needs fixing:
If a payment option is actively displayed in the browser interface, it should work. Currently, the Stripe gateway integration is broken for Indian recurring mandates on the web, trapping users in an endless failure loop. Standard troubleshooting (clearing cache, changing browsers, switching networks) changes nothing.

Request:
Could a forum moderator or staff member please escalate this bug report to the payment operations/engineering team? They either need to patch the Stripe web-mandate flow for India, or temporarily remove the misleading UPI option from the web interface so users know they must rely on App Store billing instead.

Is anyone else from India experiencing this exact web-browser UPI block right now?

Welcome to the dev Community, @scooby30

Thanks for reporting this and for providing such a detailed description.

This looks like we'll need some additional information to troubleshoot further. Could you please go ahead and create a support ticket by reaching out to support@openai.com? Once you've done that, please share the support ticket number (case ID) here so I can help track the issue further.
