API rate limit is also being applied to payment methods

Hey all,

I’m currently blocked from adding a payment method to my account with the error: “You’ve exceeded the 0 request/min rate limit, please slow down and try again.”

My account balance turned negative since I had auto-refill turned off, which is leading to production errors similar to:

{‘error’: {‘message’: ‘You exceeded your current quota, please check your plan and billing details. For more information on this error, read the docs: https://platform.openai.com/docs/guides/error-codes/api-errors.’, ‘type’: ‘insufficient_quota’, ‘param’: None, ‘code’: ‘insufficient_quota’}}

The issue here is that I’m also rate limited from adding a payment method. Our application is currently down due to the issue. The account email is [removed by moderator]

Thanks.

@aprendendo.next I’ve already contacted OpenAI support, but I’m trying to bring visibility to the issue since they claim a 2-3 day turnaround on responses. This is causing a Vibrato production outage.

Full outage here also because I can’t add a payment method. The rate limit is coming from the stripe form I believe.

I’m also affected. Completely blocked by this. Safari + Chrome.

Try to clear your cookies or log into Open AI via your desktop and attempt this action again. I had similar issues last month but now resolved. Hope this helps.

Hello! We're currently investigating this issue and will share an update with you shortly. Thank you for your patience!

Hello! Users are allowed up to 6 attempts to update their payment method within a 360-minute window—exceeding this will trigger a rate limit error. However, due to a bug in how the error message is displayed, it currently shows “0 requests/min,” which is misleading. We’ll be fixing the wording soon, and in the meantime, if you're still facing issues, please file a support ticket (help.openai.com) so we can take a closer look.

This is not a user fault per-user.

A bunch of users reporting this same issue again at the first of the month like usual, as before, is not something you can blame on the users.

This is a symptom that comes about when OpenAI has overextended its use of its Stripe API and Stripe shuts you guys down. Fix that instead with real action.
