Working hard to undersanding working of api, openai blocks your access

i received OpenAI’s Usage Policies restrict the use of our services in a number of areas. We have identified ongoing activity in your OpenAI account that is not permitted under our policies for:

  • Distillation

but i did not do anything but try to learn how stuff works…

working hard on products to use openais api and then getting your account disabled is really not cool guys…

  • Distillation

Oh my. Is this the distillation that was a well documented process in the docs a year ago, then deprecated and removed, and perhaps now … a reason for a account being flagged?

I’ve got to say: even though I can appreciate the real world reasons for it…

The level of opaqueness and lack of transparency here seems to be getting extreme.

im not sure, iam always to busy with creating stuff, its a orchastrator and i build a experiment agent thing that makes choises on fictional tools. in json, so from what i understand repetitive calling in json might be flagged as trying to distill the workings of the ai models. I build a automation platform and allowing models to handle prompts, chat and do usefull things within the steps.

i understand the need for these measures but i was a bit sad to get a deactivation

Ive been building systems for clients with openai for a while now. @OpenAI_Support let me use the api again haha, comon

Hi all, let me quickly clarify this:

“Distillation” in OpenAI’s terms refers to model extraction or reverse-engineering, meaning using OpenAI outputs to recreate a separate competing model. This violates the Services Agreement.

In contrast, the officially documented “distillation” process involves using GPT-4o to generate examples to fine-tune another smaller 4o model—this is fully allowed.

We don’t know exactly why the account was flagged, though. To resolve this, please reach out to support directly at help.openai.com, since only they can review account-specific details.

Hope this clears things up!

I believe my account may have been flagged due to misunderstanding. I’ve already reached out to support at help.openai.com as suggested,

time to switch provider i guess?

can you explain more about this?

I have been working with the api for as long as it is there, by now we have systems like n8n and other, orchastration, we do this managed with my own system, human in the loop save and making sure nobody can misuse it. still while testing my api was deactivated and havent heard since. now someone is telling me about hidden layers and such, their reactions being removed almost instantly.

help me out, we are trying to give people acces to their own data with ai nothing harmfull. why am i targeted? and what do i need to do to make sure we align with usage terms
