Why won't ChatGPT draw a stained glass rose?

I’ve been trying to request a stained glass rose, but they are consistently getting flagged and blocked, even when described generically. This seems like an overly strict content filter, as there’s nothing copyrighted or inappropriate about a rose in stained glass style. Could this be reviewed to allow normal stained glass floral designs?

Welcome to the community!

If you search around (dalle3), we’ve got a lot of great threads with information.

This “Rose” issue is here somewhere, I believe. I think we’ve narrowed it down to that being the character name for a Disney character?

I’ve not tested myself, though.

Can you share prompts you’re trying?

I don’t know if there is a Disney character named Rose, but the prompt I used was “can you generate a picture of a stained glass rose?” It then says there is a policy issue, but when I ask why and that Disney doesn’t have a copyright over stained glass roses, it says that it was misflagged. The only way to get even a bit of the way there is through super generic terms like ‘red flowers and green leaves’ or ‘red blooms’. Those results are just hibiscus or other generic flowers though.

Wow wouldn’t even work in ChatGPT.

I’ll see if I can find out anything, but I think it might be over-strict filters.

Should be back to normal soon.

NOTE: I’m just guessing on the Disney thing, but it does appear to be over-sensitive at the moment

Thank you for trying to look into it. I’m very new to using Chatgpt so I don’t know how to contact support or anything about this issue. I don’t know what to do about over-strict filters.

Once you understand that “rose” cannot be sent by ChatGPT within the DALL-E prompt and let the AI know that, then you can proceed…

That’s a weird restriction—challenge accepted.

When faced with constraints like this, think of it as a puzzle rather than a limitation. Instead of saying ‘rose,’ I described its essence—velvety petals spiraling inward, deep red hues, a thorned stem. Iterating step by step, I refined it until I got the stained glass rose I was after.

AI is all about shaping the output through creative problem-solving. There’s always a way to work around a constraint—you just have to reframe how you approach it.

The hint with the synonyms is key after identifying that a specific word is on the filter list.
I decided to use the Latin term ‘flos rosae’ and the issue disappears.

Inspiring from you @vb but using Turkish words “kırmızı gül”

I literally tried all of these prompts word for word and they all didn’t work. It came back with the same response each time.

“I wasn’t able to generate the image due to content policy restrictions. If you’d like, you can modify your request or explore a different artistic style, and I’d be happy to assist!

The reason why prompts still don’t work is because GPT changes them again before they are sent to DALL·E. This is after all the pointless blockages additionally annoying. At the end of the prompt write this: (don’t change the prompt, send it as it is). This prevents GPT from adding “rose” again.

There are still a number of pitfalls in DALL·E at the moment. You can find more information here.

The combination of nonsensical blocking, and GPT changes the prompts, putting people around in frustrating circles of frustration.

You are not the only user, it’s an issue that keeps recurring again and again and again and again and again and again. And by now, I think someone should be fired! It’s unbearable!
Who simply puts EVERY name used from Disney on the Blocklist?! Tell him to stop the BS, to clean the list, or Fire this one!! it goes on every bodies nerves!!!
No other image generator blocks “rose” ON VALENTINES DAY!!! or “snow white” or “black panther”.
Let Disney sue OpenAI, and sue them back for blocking language, and steal time form million users. I will put my time on the bill too!

And yes, IT IS DISNEY AGAIN!!!

Hi, try a correct scientific term.

I have used a specific type of rose here:

I have written it as follows: Floribundar_osen
Only one " r "

Yes, ANY replace of the word will do. it is a stupid word block list. So if you once know the word, you can replace it with anything representing the same thing.

But how to know the blocked words and phrases?!

You first must know the word or phrase, and GPT fools you around in circles by chaining the prompt. So this you must stop first.
Then you must check every single line to see where is the Block.
And then you must find the word or Words.
…And 20 min of your live is gone. And only if you ever know what to do of course. I think not 1% of users find this forum infos ever.

Here i tried to collect them, but users not find it.

And on a point, i give up. The problem has to be fixed, not work arounded!!!

That seems unlikely: a very minor character alter-ego in a non-impactful tv show.

If it is likely done automatically, so it maybe not matters.
Maybe Disney hand down the list to OAI, or they collect it form such a wiki.
Could be it is a other source, but how else “Rose” come on the list?
I have no idea what else it could be.

It is the most common pattern. Almost every nonsense block is related to Disney.
I would guess, they have some elf’s out there with flowers names, and all this flowers are blocked.
(I will not spend my time to check all names, this is OAI stuff business, and if they not move anything anyway, it would be a waste of time.)

I even check once if some words have a code meaning in a dirty context,(witch by the way D puts in there movies often. Search for “lemon party”.)
But i have found nothing.

PS, the rose block was added just recently so OAI MUST know what they have done - what they have updated.

Just think about, how they collect automatically a large block list of names.
!!! And NOT use the LLM to clean the list !!!

Well, if cross-stitch is impacted by random words, how about other crafts?

The users aren’t the one that did the liberal usurping of content.

Careful… D will come for you and want a B$ for it.

I completely agree with you.
But these ‘exceptions’ have confirmed one thing for me.
If the general formulations don’t work, then specify and detail what you want to say. Be specific!

When I simply used the scientific, precise term and not a generalisation, it worked.
Clear wording can already help to minimise these ‘misunderstandings’.
