Voice to text not working in either web or app - April 2025

Haven’t seen this in 2025, but the dictation (speech to text for prompts) is not working for me either in Chrome or in the ChatGPT app on Android.

It works flawlessly for Gemini in both use cases, so I know it’s not a hardware or Windows OS issue. I’ve adjusted permission for the site and used several different hardware options. None of them seem to work.

On Chrome, nothing seems to register at all. On the app, it listens, registers voice, but then never delivers anything to text. Am I missing something obvious? Is this a common issue?

I have exactly the same issue - especially in threads of projects - I have deinstalled - reinstalled then it worked, then failed again, really annoying…

I am also having this issue. It says “listening” and then I speak and then it says “converting to text” but then it automatically goes back to “listening” and never converts the audio to text so I can send it.

Same issue here. Started a couple of days ago shortly after Samsung pushed their new UI update. Not sure if it is related or not. It works for a while and then does the sending listening thing. I’ve tried uninstalling/reinstalling, confirming permissions, etc. It is a problem as I use that feature very frequently. Especially annoying since you don’t know it didnt work until you’ve said something. Sometimes works for me asking if it is working and then doesn’t work on the next message.

I have had the precise same issue for a few weeks now.

Exact same issue here, now for a few days. Highly annoying as it renders the app unusable on mobile devices. As mentioned, most pronounced in threads within projects.

Same here I have to start > stop > start again | works on the second try, never works on the firts try

I have the same issue in the App on two different Android phones.
After voice input it shows the loading icon, then the field stays blank without send button.

Reinstallation of the app fixes the problem for one message.

Same issue here. Chrome or Android App arent working. In new chats, its working, but not in older ones.

Edit: Safari isnt working too.

Same issue on Mac, iPad and iPhone apps as well as Safari.

Same issue on Android App.

Dictation in the chat (not the voice chat) fails 8 out 10 times, both on working wifi at home and using mobile network out and about.

You dictate, it says “converting to text” then you get a blank text box except for “Ask me anything” with no text and no option to do anything. Restarting the app does nothing.

As a paying user, I’m quite annoyed by this.

Sigh.

Today’s update gave me hope — but unfortunately, the issue still persists.

This problem only occurs in chats that are part of Projects. In regular chats, everything works as expected. In fact, OpenAI even reverted to the older dictation style, which is pauseable — meaning instead of turning 3 minutes into one giant text block, I can dictate 3×1-minute segments, which is much more stable and practical.

But in project chats, neither the dictate feature nor the advanced voice mode work anymore.
This has been broken for many weeks now, across multiple versions of the Android app.

At this point, I’m seriously considering abandoning projects altogether until this is finally fixed.

This is not working for me either in the web or windows app…
On Android, this seems to work on short voice messages, but longer ones (more than 30 seconds) it fails due to network errors (I assume this hits a timeout and never gets to the end).
Is there a page to report these bugs?
