Visible Remaining-Time / Usage Indicator in ChatGPT Work

Feature Request: Visible Remaining-Time / Usage Indicator in ChatGPT Work

I would like ChatGPT Work to show a persistent, visible indicator of the approximate remaining usage time or remaining quota while a Work session is running.

For example:

  • “Approximately 30 minutes remaining”
  • “Approximately 1 hour remaining”
  • or a percentage such as “35% remaining”

This would be especially useful during long tasks such as website editing, file processing, research, or multi-step workflows.

At the moment, checking usage requires leaving the active Work screen and opening another page. That interrupts the workflow and makes it difficult to know whether there is enough remaining capacity to start another task.

If the limit is reached in the middle of a task, the work can be interrupted before completion. The user may then need to reopen panels, log in again, restore context, and spend additional limited Work time just getting back to the same point.

A simple persistent indicator inside the Work interface would help users plan their work, avoid starting tasks that cannot be completed within the remaining limit, and reduce unnecessary interruptions.

Ideally, the indicator should remain visible without leaving the active Work session.

Replying to further advocate for this and specifically call out a seemingly shady business practice. In work, you do get a small pop notification when you reach 10% of your 5hr or weekly limit, UNLESS you have paid for additional credits; then there is no warning. This seems like an intentional deceptive business practice to get you to use your paid credit instead of the credit that comes with your paid plan. I purchase credit so that if I run out of usage in the middle of work, the current process can finish uninterupted. If I know I am reaching my limit with the 10% warning pop-up, I can choose to wait for my usage reset, or use my paid credits. Without the warning, it is set up to have you use your paid credits without realizing your prepaid usage has run out.
