Feature Request: Improve ChatGPT Work Usage Transparency and Quota Management

Hello OpenAI Team,

First of all, thank you for building such a powerful platform. ChatGPT has become an essential part of my professional work.

While using ChatGPT Work with my Plus subscription, I experienced an unexpected interruption because my Work quota was exhausted. I only became aware of the limit after the Work session stopped.

I would like to suggest a few improvements that could greatly improve the user experience for all ChatGPT users.

1. Live Work Usage Meter

Please display a real-time Work Usage Meter showing:

  • Total Work quota
  • Used quota
  • Remaining quota
  • Reset date and time
  • A visual progress bar

Users should always know how much Work quota remains.

2. Pre-Run Usage Estimate

Before starting a Work task, display an estimated usage such as:

  • Low
  • Medium
  • High

or an approximate percentage of quota expected to be consumed.

This would help users decide whether to continue, simplify the task, or postpone it.

3. Usage Notifications

Please notify users when they reach:

  • 50%
  • 75%
  • 90%
  • 100%

of their Work quota.

4. Better Subscription Transparency

Many users do not know that Work usage has a quota until it suddenly stops.

At the time of subscription purchase and inside the ChatGPT interface, please clearly explain:

  • That Work usage has a quota.
  • How it is measured.
  • Where users can monitor it.
  • When it resets.

This would avoid confusion and improve trust.

5. Carry Forward (Rollover) of Unused Work Quota

Please consider allowing unused Work quota to roll over.

Possible options:

  • Carry forward 100% of unused quota.
  • Or carry forward at least 50%.
  • Or keep unused quota valid for 2–3 months.

Many users work on long-term projects with varying monthly workloads, so this would make subscriptions feel much fairer.

6. Work Usage History

Please provide a page showing:

  • Daily usage
  • Weekly usage
  • Monthly usage
  • Remaining quota
  • Usage by each Work session

This would help users better understand and manage their usage.

These improvements would make ChatGPT Work more transparent, predictable, and user-friendly for researchers, writers, developers, and professionals working on long-term projects.

I strongly support this feature request. I ran into essentially the same issue today as a ChatGPT Plus user.

I had been using Work without realizing how much of my included usage I was consuming because the usage meter was not prominently visible in the interface where I was actually working. By the time I found the usage information, I had already used approximately 96% of my allowance, with the reset still several days away.

For me, the biggest issue isn’t that a usage limit exists. I understand that agentic workloads have costs and that plans can have limits. The problem is that users need enough visibility to manage those limits responsibly.

A persistent usage indicator in the main ChatGPT interface would make a significant difference. Even something simple like:

  • Percentage of included usage remaining

  • Reset date/time

  • Clear warnings at 50%, 75%, 90%, etc.

  • A link to detailed usage history

  • Ideally, some indication of how much individual Work sessions are consuming

This becomes especially important when additional usage can be purchased after the included allowance is exhausted. Users should be able to make an informed decision about how they use their included quota before reaching that point.

I genuinely think this would improve the user experience and reduce a lot of unnecessary frustration. The current experience feels a bit like driving a car where the fuel gauge exists, but you have to dig through the dashboard menus to find it.

+1 for a prominently displayed Work usage meter and better quota transparency.
