deleted all previous chats and conversations and still having this issue. anyone able to come up with a fix before i just delete my membership and go elsewhere?
Won’t work. Tried. Almost a week now all uploads expire immediately.
Same problem. Haven’t successfully get chatgpt read files for several days
Hey all, yeah, I get why that’s frustrating. Especially if you’ve been using the same workflow for months and it suddenly starts breaking.
Just to clarify one thing: there hasn’t been a recent rule change that causes documents to expire within minutes. Files are session-scoped, but what you’re describing (immediate “file expired” responses right after upload) doesn’t sound expected.
A couple quick questions so we can narrow this down:
- Is this happening on the Mac app, iOS/iPadOS app, web, or all of them?
- Does it happen in brand new chats too, or only in older ongoing threads?
- Roughly what file types and sizes are you uploading?
- If you log out and back in (or reinstall the app), does it still happen?
Also, good thought on checking memory limits, but that wouldn’t affect file access. Memory being full wouldn’t cause uploads to expire.
Appreciate you flagging it, you’re definitely not the only one seeing this.
I am using the Android App and having this exact issue as well. It started yesterday and persists, regardless of file type, size or complexity.
It affects files attached to threads, old or new, as well as newly project-mounted files (I thought to use temporary project-mounting to bypass the issue, which is how I discovered that one). ChatGPT seems to still be able to access older project-mounted files without issue though.
However, if I go through the web browser, even via mobile phone I can attach the same files without issue to new or existing threads or as new project-mounted files.
Hopefully, that helps resolve this.
Edit: Well, last night, the app could still reference older project-mounted files. This morning there seems to be variance between containers, with most now unable to, in app.
Edited V2: Slow de-evolution. Now on web browser, only new threads can read attached files.
I faced the same issue on the web, and after repeated uploads, it is not considering new uploaded file to refere. show the same message
At this
So at this point, what I’ve found is, if I use a new thread in the website mode, I can attach files and reference them. If while I’m in Android app, that same thread is at any point actively referenced by the android app (entered seems to count, not just message activity), then it can no longer reference attached files and falls into the same issue as the rest.
Don’t enter the thread, and on the website it can continue to reference newly attached files.
Seems to imply the android app is corrupting the attachment accessibility state for the threads? But I’m not really a professional here.
I am having this problem with the web.
Happens in old threads, new threads, new chats and new projects.
My files are typically somewhere between 300-4000KB – so plenty small.
I have tried logging out and back in and yes, it still happens.
Is OpenAI going to respond with any new advice or guidance?
Are you going to offer us any suggestions?
I have a macbook and i use chatgpt on chrome. i created a new chat this morning and firstly its such a headache cuz some documents dont finish uploading, it stays on uploading and you have to upload through another device. also it expires in seconds. its a new chat
Hello!
I am using the web version of ChatGPT in Chrome and Edge browsers, with a Plus subscription.
The problem that “the last file is not saved on the server, and I cannot see it” has been happening for the past 7+ days:
- in new chats;
- in new chats in new projects;
- in old chats;
- in old chats in old projects;
- in new chats in old projects.
- In other words, it happens everywhere.
No types of files are being accepted, including images of any format and any size.
I have tried clearing the entire browser history, deleting all cookies, running in a “clean” browser, and even resetting network settings in Windows 11. I also deleted old projects/chats. None of this helps.
Same exact problem here just started last night. Doesn’t matter what type of file I upload the AI says it expired and can not longer access it within minutes. Even very small files and very small conversation prompts. Still gone in minutes.
Same thing happening to me. Been using the same workflow for months with no issues. Suddenly yesterday all my uploaded documents expire immediately. So. Incredibly. Aggravating.
Having the same/a similar issue as of late with Go subscription.
Happens for me on the web version using Firefox browser.
The files upload fine and it has no problem reading them. After a couple minutes it starts “guessing”, when asked says that the file has expired so it can no longer access the content and I should reupload. If I reupload the same thing happens a few minutes later.
Happens in old and new chats, projects, anywhere pretty much.
Have tried with .pdf, .jpg. and .zip and all eventually expire. With varying sizes from 400KB to 70MB. Same thing occurs regardless.
Cleared all chats and memory and logged out and back in and this did not improve anything.
Happening to me too for the past two weeks with the Mac app. File will upload and immediately expire. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, clearing all the chats, everything. The files I’m uploading are simple PDFs as well. Doesn’t happen on the web browser. Please advise.
