"unknown error" - only in CustomGPT while uploading files vom ChatUser

Strange problem:
My CustomGPT prompts the user to upload a small CSV file to analyse the data it contains. This is structured as follows:
Index,Profile,Status,CallId,DateTimeCall,Caller,DateTimeEvent,TypeOfEvent,MfVNumber,UserName,UserCallNumber,

If I do this in the normal chat window (outside a CustomGPT), it can be analysed without any problems.

However, it does not work within the CustomGPT!
Even when uploading, either ‘An unknown error has occurred’ appears in a red message box OR there is even a preview (named ‘Table’) in the chat window with the correct values - BUT then the chat prompts you to upload a file again because it supposedly hasn’t received one.

Does anyone have an idea why this happens?
The file contains only a few test data and is only 1812 bytes in size. All data is also ‘valid’.

How can this be prevented?

Many thanks for a tip!

Ok, the function was indeed switched on. I have now deactivated it in response to your question and updated the custom GPT - unfortunately it doesn’t change anything.

If you upload a file in the custom GPT chat, the message ‘An unknown error has occurred’ immediately appears in red at the top of the screen.

Do you have any tips for me? What is the reason for this?

Thanks for your advice!

It should be activated to analyze file.
If it is a public GPT, can you share its link?

oh - it was activated. I had assumed from your post that it must be deactivated. I have reactivated it.

Can I send you a personal link?

You can share here or DM no problem

I’m new to the community. Is there a share function here to send you the link personally or is it only possible by e-mail (I have already found this e-mail function).

You can use a single backtick (`) before and after link:

chatgpt.com

[deleted] the link, because the problem is solved. THANK YOU!

Unfortunately I’m a new forum user and OpenAI only allows 22 replies. Therefore I can no longer reply to you directly. But your file has helped. It now works for me too. THANK YOU!

Here is my test data. The heading texts must remain ‘German’ as my customGPT expects them to be.

You have to copy this into a text-based CSV file and then upload it using the paperclip symbol. Then I get the error (in different browsers but also in the APP for Windows).
But if you copy them directly into the chat window, it works.

Thank yo for your help!!!

Yes, I was just expecting that. In the view of my CustomGPT I could see that the chat count ‘went up’.

I don’t understand that.
Why doesn’t it work for me?
Multiple browsers. Or also in the ChatGPT app.

Do you have any ideas where I could start?

Is my output correct on your GPT?

Yes, that looks very good. It seems to be working for you.

And that’s what happens to me…

Have you reached the file upload limit?

good tip. But no. That can’t be it. The problem has been there for days - and I haven’t uploaded anything else. It also always comes up when I recreate the custom GPT. And always “directly” after the upload.

I don’t even get to “1”

Problems may vary based on your browser, plugins, extensions, network…

You may try:

  • If you use VPN, turn off
  • If you use public non-password WIFI, don’t use it
  • Clean browser (history, cookies, cache…)
  • Log out all devices

I will try.
But…

I have now started an incognito window in a browser, created a new ChatGPT account and called up the link to the customGPT there. This is of course a free user - but 3 files should work.

The error appears immediately.

Maybe it’s the text file.
How is it encoded in your language codec? UTF8? Or ANSI or…?
