"Unable to load conversation" – support isn't helpful, error has been going on for over a month now

Hi, I’ve been having an issue with my old ChatGPT conversations. Most of the time they won’t open. It just says “unable to load conversation” and nothing happens. Sometimes it does open, but if I refresh the page, I run into the same problem again. This happens on both the web interface and the Android app. It’s been going on for a month now.

I emailed support and gave them all the details they asked for. But they keep sending the same templated replies and keep saying the issue is on my end, without clearly stating the issue. I told them I have tried 3 different devices and 3 different networks, and the issue still persists. Support hasn’t been helpful at all. They just keep sending the same templated replies over and over.

Has anyone else had this problem and found a way to fix it for good? Or is there anyone here from the technical support team who could look deeper into this and help resolve it? I would really appreciate the help. It has been over two weeks of going back and forth with support with absolutely no help at all.

Hi @syedali.wba, I can see why this has been frustrating, especially after testing across multiple devices/networks and still getting the same “unable to load conversation” issue. That usually points away from a local setup problem.

Right now there’s already a pending case being reviewed by the engineering team, so it hasn’t been dismissed or closed out. We don’t have a timeline to share yet, but we’ll update here if there’s movement or a confirmed fix.

One thing that would help narrow it down a bit more for others following this thread:

  • Does this happen mostly with conversations tied to a specific model?
  • Are the affected chats generally very long / media-heavy threads, or does it happen even on shorter ones?

A few people have reported similar behavior where older or longer chats intermittently fail to load across both web and mobile, so this doesn’t seem isolated.
