Tired of a messy sidebar? Let ChatGPT proactively organize your chat history into Projects!

Hi everyone!

Let’s be honest: How many of us have a sidebar that looks like a cemetery of random, automatically-named chats? :face_with_peeking_eye:

Right now, ChatGPT has an amazing Projects feature, but it relies 100% on us being proactive, organized, and doing the manual work of creating folders and moving threads. For those of us who are “unstructured” or just busy, the sidebar quickly becomes an uncontrollable mess, and we lose track of valuable information.

Here is the Idea: The Proactive “Smart Organizer”

Instead of making us do the chores, what if ChatGPT surprised us once a week with a proactive suggestion?

Imagine a weekly notification or a gentle prompt saying:

“Hey! I’ve reviewed your recent chat history and noticed you’ve been working on a few specific topics. Would you like me to automatically group these 8 chats into two new Projects: ‘Python Learning’ and ‘Trip to Europe’? Keep your sidebar clean with just 1 click!”

Why OpenAI should build this:

  • Zero Friction: It transforms a chaotic history into an organized knowledge base without the user lifting a finger.

  • Encourages Project Use: It gently “teaches” unstructured users how to leverage the Projects feature.

  • True AI Proactivity: It moves ChatGPT from being a reactive tool to a proactive personal assistant.

If you are also guilty of opening a new chat for every single question and leaving your sidebar in absolute chaos, please UPVOTE this post! Let’s get OpenAI’s Product Managers to see this and save us from our own clutter! :rocket:
