Feature Request: Let ChatGPT Organize and Manage My Chats and Projects

Hey OpenAI team! I’m a software engineer, open-source contributor, and a heavy ChatGPT/Codex user who somehow ends up with way too many chats.

I have a feature idea that I think would make ChatGPT much better at managing long-term usage: let ChatGPT organize and manage our conversations for us.

For example, I’d love to be able to say:

  • “Move all my x chats to my x project.”

  • “Find my old AWS/cloud-learning conversations and move them to my Career project.”

  • “Archive chats I haven’t used in six months.”

  • “Show me duplicate or very similar conversations.”

  • “Delete these chats.”

  • “Organize my conversations into projects based on their topics.”

ChatGPT already understands the context and topics of our conversations surprisingly well. It feels natural that, with explicit user permission, it should also be able to perform actions on them instead of making us manually search through a huge sidebar.

There could obviously be safeguards for destructive actions — for example, ChatGPT could show the chats it plans to delete and ask for confirmation before actually deleting them.

For people who use ChatGPT every day for work, learning, personal projects, writing, and random questions, conversation management becomes a real problem over time. Giving ChatGPT controlled access to organize its own workspace would make Projects much more useful.

Also, I’m a Codex user, so technically I just did some free product management for OpenAI.

I think that qualifies me for a one-year ChatGPT Pro subscription. xDD

Jokes aside, I’d genuinely love to see something like this. It would make ChatGPT feel much more like a persistent workspace rather than a growing list of conversations that I have to organize manually.

Hey @Ahmedhossamdev, welcome to the community!

A feature proposal and a compensation request in the same post. Nicely played.

The feature idea itself makes sense for anyone whose chat history has become difficult to manage manually. Being able to ask ChatGPT to find related conversations, move them into Projects, and identify duplicates could make organizing older work much easier.

The confirmation step would be important before any chats are archived or deleted, so users can review exactly what will change.

I cannot promise when or whether something like this will be added, but I will pass the feedback along internally.
