I would like to suggest a feature that allows ChatGPT to intelligently organise a user’s existing chat history.
As users accumulate hundreds or even thousands of conversations, valuable information becomes fragmented across many chats. Manually reviewing, renaming, moving and archiving conversations becomes increasingly difficult.
The feature could allow a user to simply say:
“Review my entire chat history and organise it for me.”
ChatGPT could then:
- Identify recurring topics, projects and workstreams
- Suggest suitable Projects automatically
- Group related chats under the appropriate Projects
- Detect duplicate or overlapping conversations
- Suggest better names for chats and Projects
- Recommend completed or low-value chats for archiving
- Move multiple chats in bulk
- Identify chats that may belong to more than one Project
- Maintain a Master/Overview chat for important ongoing Projects
- Periodically suggest where new conversations should be organised
The most important safeguard should be user control.
ChatGPT should not silently reorganise a user’s history. Instead, the workflow could be:
Analyse history → Suggest structure → Show proposed changes → Highlight uncertain classifications → User approves → Apply changes → Full Undo available
This would address concerns around misclassification, privacy and accidental loss of discoverability while still providing the productivity benefits of AI-assisted organisation.
For users who use ChatGPT extensively for professional work, research, business projects, legal matters, investments, health, learning and long-term planning, this could transform Projects from simple folders into a much more powerful personal knowledge and work-management system.
I also believe this could reasonably be offered as a premium Plus/Pro feature, particularly where ChatGPT analyses large chat histories and performs bulk organisational actions.
I would personally be willing to pay for such a capability if it provides:
AI-assisted organisation + user approval + bulk actions + full Undo.
In the long term, I believe ChatGPT should not only help users create knowledge, but also help them manage and structure the knowledge they have already created inside ChatGPT.
