i use ChatGPT a lot like A LOT on a daily basis so finding a certain chat is vary hard (also if you do see this let me know by responding)
Hi @ brendans.mommy87
Welcome to the comunity!
On ChatGPT, you’ll find the search button in the top-left corner.
In the sample search image below, it retrieves a specific chat from August 7, which is 101 days ago.
i don’t see it do you need pro
Yes. It works on ChatGPT Plus, Team, Enterprise, and Edu accounts (FOR NOW).
But, there is a good news, and OpenaI is saying on this LINK
Free users will begin receiving access gradually over the next month.
thank you for letting me know idk how but I’ll get limited access to ChatGPT-4o so hopefully i get it then
I have a paid subscription. I was using the search feature to scan my threads (chats) up until last week. It was a wondrous time saver. Now it’s gone. I’ve tried logging into different browsers and different laptops. I no longer see it for my paid account. Does anybody have any information on this?
I appreciate the suggestion. On my desktop, I’ve tried Ctrl-K six ways to Sunday and the magnifying glass / search bar (for ChatGPT) is gone. I did notice the search bar is available and working on my phone app, only. I’ll see what happens over the next few days.
Can you see search icon on any BROWSER app on mobile phone?
For example on phone CHROME browser:
If you can see it on phone, I wonder if you have some extentions on your DESKTOP browser that effect it.
I encountered the same issue. I tried the various methods suggested by @polepole (Ctrl + K; iOS Chrome browser)—many thanks for those helpful suggestions—but unfortunately, none of them worked. The search icon has simply disappeared. I recently upgraded to ChatGPT Pro, so I’m wondering if that might be related.
Thank you again. I’ve gone as far as setting up clean browser installs on fresh laptops and testing multiple browsers (e.g. Chrome, Brave, Edge, Opera) all with the same results - search icon missing. I’ve definitely spent more time troubleshooting than I’d like. For now, I’ve found a workaround: using the phone app first and then switching to the laptop.
Yes, exactly this. I’ve been using ChatGPT Plus (paid version) since the beginning. My current workaround is to use the phone app to locate the chat title, then switch to my laptop browser and use CTRL-F to find that chat in the left panel. It’s a bit of a time-waster, but it works.
“search in chats” feature is gone here today.
mobile app still have it, so i blocked auto update, because i really need that feature.
ctrl+f doesn’t always help, because it only searches already loaded chats in left panel. i could scroll down many times to load older chats (like more than 7 days ago), but a search feature could really help like it was until yesterday.
The search button is still available on my personal account, but it disappeared from my corporate Team account the day before yesterday. This issue is problematic for me.
… and auto-techno-magically it is back on my laptop browser today (16-Dec-2024), all browsers. We’ll see how long it lasts. Shaking my head.
I have the plus package, and I can’t get the search tool to show. Do you need to enable it in the options. I tried different browsers, logging off/on. Nothing works.
